Colleagues, good evening,
It's an honour to notify you our members and friends of some developments that are of interest to us.
1. Armed Bandits who invaded on Wednesday, taking with them cash and jewellery. We are thankful that there was no physical injury but staff and Officers are still traumatized. It is an eye opener for us all and rigid security measures are now in placed, please when you have to visit the Union's Headquarters be kind and appreciate that the measures in place we're not placed there to create unnecessary harassment but are systems put in place as a matter of security.

2. The headteachers and deputies whose names are listed below are kindly asked to make contact with Ms Forde at GRA, her office is located on the 3rd floor , Remission Section as early as possible. This is in relation to those duty free concessions that were long overdue.

Message to the Nation’s Teachers
From the Guyana Teachers’ Union
Teaching is described as a noble profession. The profession attracts the kindest, most peaceful, loving, caring, selfless and considerate professionals. These professionals here in Guyana are preparing to re-enter the classroom at a time when there is much dissatisfaction as it relates to their interest and well-being. Facebook postings and the buzz evident in and around schools across Guyana during the pre-term activities indicated that our teachers have responded as the true professions we are to ensure that come September 5th,2016, learners are not short changed. Many have utilized their personal scarce resources to beautify classrooms and learning environment.
The Guyana Teachers’ Union is of the view that our employers care less about teachers. All that matter is the child/student/learner. It must be noted however that an unmotivated teacher will affect learners and learning in schools. The Ministry of Education and by extension, government cannot bury its head in the sand and ignore the fact that teachers will take so much and no more, you need to address teachers’ welfare now. Teachers are returning to the classroom come September 5th, 2016 with no increase in salaries and other non- salary benefits all because a deliberate plan was employed by the Ministry of Education to stall the negotiation process so that they can await the outcome of negotiations between the Guyana Public Service Union and government. None the less we remain resolute and patient.
Teachers be assured that the struggle will end soon with victory for us. We will win some day. The Guyana Teachers’ Union is of the belief that “patience is virtue” and that “ good things come to those who wait”, well the wait is on for a number of things; a. Debunching, b. outcome of the Teaching Service vs Guyana Teachers’ Union matter before the High Court. c. completion of negotiations with the Ministry of Education etc. The Union assures teachers that we believe that a favourable outcome is near in all of these and other matters affecting teachers. We understand and empathise with you, but know that nothing in life comes easy. Together we struggle and experience the pain so that when victory comes it will be enjoyed by every teacher who serves this nation.
Let me take this opportunity on behalf of my executives and teachers of across Guyana to wish each of you a successful and productive Christmas Term 2016. I am positive that soon, very soon we will share excellent news with you. Remain resolute and confident knowing that Lord will fight our battle. God Bless you.
Best wishes,
Mark Lyte
