C.V. Nunes Primary School (former Anna Regina Primary) was established
on the 23rd of September, 1935. Nunes Primary School has a special room located on the northern wing of the upper flat of the main building.
This room houses our library. This library has books for all ages. Books can be selected from a variety for research/enjoyment. This is specifically for reference. There is also another room on the western wing called our Reading Room. This main purpose is for pupils to read and enjoy books in an informal setting. Scheduled visits to the Reading Room are always supervised by a designated teacher. C.V. Nunes Primary receives text and exercise books from the Books Distribution Unit via Department of Education and others are received from donor agencies. Accountability of all books received and distributed is maintained in the school’s record keeping system. DISTRIBUTION
Exercise books are distributed by Teachers assigned to all grades. Class Teachers distribute to all pupils using the prescribed format. EXERCISE BOOK
ACQUISITION
Exercise Books are to be distributed on accordance with the guide lines issued
from time to time by the Ministry of Education. Accountability of Exercise books
received and distributed from the Distribution Unit is documented in a prepared
ledger and maintained. TEXT BOOK INVENTORY
Audit of Text Books is done twice per term at the beginning and ending. Lost is accounted for on a Lost Report form. Any text book that is damaged or
destroyed must be paid for, or replaced by the person – staff member or learner

The Culture of C.V. Nunes Primary School is to have an Annual Graduation/Prize
Giving Exercise where pupils from Grades 1 – 6 are honoured for their outstanding
performance both academically and for their participation in extra curricular
activities. The best graduating pupil(s) at the Grade Six Assessment would give the valedictory
speech. At this exercise the Headteacher would present his/her annual report. An Official from the Education Department is invited to give a speech while some
one from the community gives the charge to the graduands. SCHOOL CURRICULUM
The C.V. Nunes Primary School focuses on maximizing the full potential of every pupil. As such the curriculum is so structured to address the needs of its diverse learners. Our school embraces all the Ministry of Education programmes prepared for the Primary Schools. The curriculum is delivered and reviewed periodically by the SMT
(School Management Team) and the necessary adjustments are made where necessary. The school ensures that a quality curriculum is being delivered especially in Literacy and Numeracy. Teachers’ competencies are constantly upgraded by participating in Workshops and Seminars sponsored by the Ministry of Education/Department of Education. Monthly involvement of teachers in Level Committee Meetings and regular Staff Development Sessions all help in enhancing a through and improved curriculum delivery. Our curriculum caters for the needs of under performing pupils. A remediation programme based on pupils’ out put at the various assessments (internal and external) is planned and effected by teachers. Involvement in extra curricular activities also form an integral part of the school’s curriculum. REGULARITY
All pupils are expected to attend school everyday unless they are ill. Parents must communicate with class teacher the reason/s for child’s

When pupils are absent from school for three months without notification the
pupils’ names will be withdrawn from the registers (Pupils’ Attendance and
Admission Withdrawal Registers. Attendance of pupils is encouraged at all times. Should a child be absent, a letter of excuse must be written and signed by the
parent/guardian and addressed to the class teacher. PUNCTUALITY
Pupils are expected to arrive at school on time. The day’s work commences
at 08:30 hours. Pupils who arrive after 08:30 hours are considered late. The School Rules of C.V. Nunes Primary

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL
The C.V. Nunes Primary School, formerly the Anna Regina Primary School is situated on the eastern side of the public road within the vicinity of the Anna Regina High Bridge which is in the south and the Anna Regina Police Station in the north. It is believed that the school was constructed on estate lands on which a hospital was located. In 1996, the Ministry of Education decided to construct a new school building which was completed and handed over to the then Headmaster, Mr. Wilton Isaacs, in 1997. In official opening took place six months later. The first Headmaster of Anna Regina Primary School was Mr. W.A. King. Under his headship, the school started with an enrolment of four hundred and seventy (470) pupils, on 2nd September, 1935. Today, the C.V. Nunes Primary School, formerly the Anna Regina Primary School boasts a population of over seven hundred and seventy (770) pupils and twenty-nine (29) teachers. BRIEF HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL
The present building which is built through funding from the Primary Education
Improvement Programme has a unique architectural design. It has accommodation
for thirty classrooms, a library, a canteen, a Headteacher’s Office, a staff room, sick
bay, computer room and toilet facilities for both staff and pupils. The annex, which is found in the western part of the School Compound, houses
Grade Four. This building is also used to facilitate community services such as
Workshops, Seminars, evening classes, indoor games and other programmes
permitted by the Department of Education. CARE OF PROPERTY
It is the obligation of school administrators, teachers and parents to
ensure that learners take great care of the school building and all
other assets. It is also the personal obligation of the learner to ensure that he/she
abides by rules as they relate to this area. SANITARY BLOCKS - PUPILS
- 4 toilets for 100 – 150 pupils
- 6 toilets for 151– 250 pupils
- 8 toilets for 251 – 350 pupils
- 10 toilets for 351– 450 pupils
- 12 toilets for 451 – 600 pupils
SANITARY BLOCKS - TEACHERS
- 2 toilets for 10 - teachers
- 4 toilets for 20 - teachers
- 6 toilets for 30 - teachers
The number of toilets must be divided between the sexes. Sanitact units must be
placed in the toilets used by female teachers and female students. Pupils height of toilet bowls must be suitable for Levels 1 and 11. LUNCH BREAK
Lunch time begins at 11:00/11:30 and ends at 12:30 hours. During this period
Those pupils residing within the school’s community would go home for lunch. Those pupils who reside far from the school would take lunch in school. Those teachers who remain in school during the lunch period are asked to
supervise these pupils as they have lunch. These teachers are also asked to
ensure that discipline is maintained and that pupils practise good eating habits. OUT OF BOUNDS AREA
At no time should pupils be engaged in play around the following areas:
1. Stairways
2. Corridors
3. Library
4. Reading Room
5. Main bridge leading to school
DETENTION
This is a form of punishment administered to learners to help him/her
display responsible behavior and positive attitudes. Detention may take the form of:
- Withdrawal of recess or luncheon periods.
- Additional learning tasks. Learners who did not turn up to serve detention or who, while serving
detention behave in any unacceptable manner will be further sanctioned
by the headteacher. REPORTING AND PROMOTION SYSTEM
BOOKLET
Each pupil of the school should have a Report Booklet into which the marks obtained
in the different subject areas will be recorded. The Report Booklet should also reflect pupils’ attendance, punctuality, conduct and special achievements. Parents or guardians will be updated on their child’s performance from the booklets, when they attend Divisional Meetings, Open Days or Parent Conferences. Pupils will be updated in a timely manner as to their strengths and weaknesses as identified. Analysis of pupils work will also be sent to the Department of Education. The school operates within the guidelines set out by the Ministry of Education as it
relates to promotion of learners. No repetition shall take place at the Primary Level. The emphasis of C.V. Nunes Primary is prevention and early intervention. See circular No. 8/2009. CLUBS
The school has one functioning club – The C.V. Nunes Primary School Bible Club. As the name suggests it is a club for all pupils of the school and it is guided by the principles of the Holy Bible. The affairs of the club are monitored by the Christian Teachers who are willing to sacrifice an half hour of their luncheon break each Wednesday to meet with pupils. The objective of the Bible Club is to know Christ and make him known. Pupils are taught choruses and spiritual songs and they are told Bible stories. Opportunity for them to interact with pupils of other Bible Clubs is afforded them annually when ever at the Regional Bible Club Festival. SUBSTANCE ABUSE
All are expected to adhere to rules governing substance abuse.
- Smoking of ci******es or inbibing alcoholic beverages within the precints of the school is not permitted.
- Drugs not prescribed by qualified persons are not allowed on the school premises. All teachers are to ensure that regulations are brought to the attention of pupils under their charge. School Management Team and other employees shall make reasonable attempts to maintain an environment free of ci******es drugs and alcohol. NUNES PRIMARY – SCHOOL ASSESSMENT
The Assessment of C.V. Nunes Primary School serves to guide teachers in their
preparation and in the implementation of the curriculum. It also serves to provide general information that can be used to enlighten parents and
other stakeholders on assessments as done. PURPOSE OF ASSESSMENT
Assessment in school will be done for diagnostic and promotional purposes.
1. Continuous assessment will be done as pupils are actually working through a unit. Information so gathered will:
(a) guide instruction in terms of method, pace and emphasis. (b) provide information so that behavioural changes are there at each stage of the
learning process.
2. Terminal assessment will also be done at the end of the term after pupils would have completed the planned programme of work in the different subject areas. Results of terminal assessment will be used to:
(a) guide teachers in planning for new term or new school year. (b) determine pupils position or grade in class and for promotional purposes. Types of Assessments

GRADING SYSTEM
The Administrative Staff of the school assigns teachers to conduct and supervise Termly Assessments in classes. These teachers are responsible for marking of test scripts. Marking of scripts is guided by Marking Schemes worked out by Supervisors and teachers of each grade. The schemes must have the approval of the Administrative Staff. PREFECT SYSTEM
The Prefect Body of C.V. Nunes Primary School is an integral part of the organization,
working in collaboration with the staff for the preservation and improvement of
discipline. Composition of the Body
The prefect body comprises pupils drawn from Grades III to VI totaling 26: 13 boys
13 girls. Some pupils are recommended by their class teachers. The names are presented to the Headteacher for approval. A Senior teacher has responsibility for managing the affairs of the body. She/He is assisted by other teachers. STUDENT GOVERNMENT
Objectives of the Student Government
i. To assist in the smooth functioning of the school. ii. To cultivate good leadership qualities in pupils. iii. To provide opportunities for pupils to share their concerns. The Student Government is formed at school level through pupil elections. This body is charged with having periodic meetings to talk about pupil concerns, plan assembles or discuss pupils issues with the School Management Team. GAMES/PHYSICAL EDUCATION
The Physical development of the body is assured by pupils participation in Physical Education and games. Games/Physical Education appear on the school timetable from Grades 1 – V1 and all teachers are mandated to ensure the curriculum for each is delivered in accordance to Ministry of Education policy.
