I walked into the packed out room.
Waiting for her to walk in.
A young girl then
19 years old
I had discovered this woman
some years ago
She had big hair, like me
She had a big heart, like me
She spoke, and peopled listened
And people flew from around the world
To have time with her
To learn from her
To hear what she thought about things.
A room with nearly a hundred people
Chaotic, small conversation.
And then, she came in.
We all felt her
Some even teared up
As she took her seat at the front of the room
So powerful, so loving, so real
And we fell silent
She began to speak
And we felt united under her leadership
The miracle sunk in
Of the power of this embodied woman
To bring kindred souls together
Who were united in a passion
For softening the suffering of others
But also, of our own hearts
I saw her, I adored her
I watched, I listened
And then eventually, I was on her team
And I saw her human
Her vulnerability
Her fears, her pain
Her wounding, and where she was still learning
At first, I was disappointed
To see the human behind the ideal I had created in my mind
And then, I was liberated.
Because it taught me, deeply
That I could rise, too
That I saw my reflection in her only in my potential
But then I saw her also as I am
And it freed me
And I went on to call in my own
seekers
Who would hold me in their minds and hearts
In a similar way
Knowing, they would see me stumble and fall
And I laugh, because I know
That my humanness, is ultimately a far greater teacher
And that the illusion of the pedestal only keeps someone small
I still, adore that woman
BECAUSE I know, she is but a seeker
With her heart on fire
With the courage to be seen in her totality
And so she is
And so I am
And so you are
