The character of 气(氣)qì

In bronze inscriptions 金书 and seal script 篆书, 气 resembles the initial rising of clouds, making it a pictograph. In regular script, it is written as 气. 氣, composed of 米 (mǐ, rice) and 气 (qì, breath), originally referred to grain or fodder given as a gift. Later, the meaning of giving grain was written as “餼 xi”, and cloud v***r as “氣”, while the character “气” became obsolete. Now, the ancient standard form is 气.

"Qi" is a radical character, and the meanings of words formed with it are mostly related to clouds, water v***r, and gaseous chemical elements.
