When biologists recovered a previously ringed bat in northern Spain, they were baffled. The small Nathusius’ pipistrelle male had travelled more than 2,200 km from Latvia – making its journey a long-distance record among migratory bats worldwide.

Today is the first day of of National Tree Week! Trees are vital for all wildlife and humans.

Bat species in the UK all rely on trees in some way, either as roosting places, as a source of food (trees can support a large variety and abundance of insects which are important for foraging bats) and commuting routes.
