R-Map: Policy Workshop for Remote Work in Thessaloniki
On 21 May, Aristotle University Of Thessaloniki hosted a Policy workshop as part of the EU-funded R-MAP Project EU, which is coordinated by Laboratory of Geoinformatics - LabGeo. The aim of the workshop was to explore, in an open way, solutions to address the different challenges or opportunities that arise in the regional unit of Thessaloniki due to remote work, and to suggest measures and policies for mitigating the adverse effects of this.
Through participatory cooperation, several stakeholders and experts from Thessaloniki (e.g. academics, urban planners, local authorities, representatives of businesses, etc.) had fruitful discussions that led to actionable policy solutions, which were based on how feasible and impactful they would be in lowering the urban-rural divide in Thessaloniki over the next 5-10 years.
Many thanks to all our participants for their time and efforts.

As Laboratory of Geoinformatics - LabGeo | Aristotle University Of Thessaloniki, we were delighted to participate in the joint symposium “Remote Work in Europe: Evidence, Impacts, Policy” held in Mannheim, Germany. The event brought together the three Horizon Europe sister projects - R-MAP Project EU, Remaking_eu, and WinWin4WorkLife - to share knowledge, exchange insights, and explore ideas shaping the future of remote work across Europe.
The symposium highlighted mid-term findings on how remote working arrangements are influencing businesses, workers, regions, and policymaking. A common objective unites these efforts: to deepen understanding of remote work trends and support the development of more effective, forward-looking EU policies that benefit citizens and society as a whole.
A big thank you to the organisers and all participants for the engaging discussions and valuable exchange of perspectives.

🌍 5th R-MAP Project EU meeting in Milan!
On 10 March, the R-MAP Project EU consortium, in which Laboratory of Geoinformatics - LabGeo | Aristotle University Of Thessaloniki is the project coordinator, came together at SDA Bocconi School of Management to reflect on our progress over the past two years and discuss the next steps as the project enters its third and final year.
During the meeting, the project partners had the opportunity to present their achievements and progress, focusing on:
· Development and continuous improvement of the R-Map platform, an interactive platform that visualizes regional patterns and spatial impacts of remote work to support evidence-based exploration and comparison.
· The six urban and rural use cases (Thessaloniki, Istanbul, Milan, Surrey, Rheintal-Bodenseegebiet and Twente-Münsterland), for which thorough diagnoses were conducted in these areas through literature reviews, expert interviews and regional surveys involving over 1,000 respondents each, in order to identify the key remote working phenomena and the key local factors influencing them.
· The organisation of policy workshops to be held in the six regions over the next few months to help us structure coherent and clear policy recommendations.
· Strengthening our collaboration with our sister project Remaking_eu, and our synergistic SECreTour Horizon EU Project sharing interesting insights.
A heartfelt thank you to SDA Bocconi School of Management for hosting us and to all partners for their commitment.
