🇪🇺The Jean Monnet Chair in European Port Policy takes another step forward in shaping the future of European maritime and port policy.

Committed to advancing research, international collaboration and dialogue, the Chair contributed to the 1st Florence Maritime Regulation Conference in collaboration with the Florence School of Regulation, European University Institute. Held on 17 July 2026 in Florence, Italy, the conference formed part of Florence Transport Week, bringing together internationally recognised academics, industry representatives and policymakers to discuss the future of maritime regulation.

The conference created an important new forum for rigorous and genuinely engaging debate on the most pressing topics of maritime transport sector. Building on its success, further initiatives are already in preparation to support evidence-based policymaking and contribute to the development of European ports and maritime sector.

🇪🇺Στα πλαίσια των δράσεων της Έδρας Jean Monnet για την Ευρωπαϊκή Λιμενική Πολιτική και με αφορμή την Ημέρας της Ευρώπης (9 Μαΐου), την Παρασκευή 8 Μαΐου, η ομάδα της Έδρας βρέθηκε στο 3ο Πειραματικό Λύκειο Πειραιά, διοργανώνοντας ενημερωτική συνάντηση με τους μαθητές με τίτλο: «Η Ευρώπη είμαστε εμείς».

Η πρωτοβουλία εντάσσεται στη προσπάθεια της Έδρας για ενίσχυσης της γνώσης και της ενεργού συμμετοχής των νέων στα ευρωπαϊκά ζητήματα.

🇪🇺 The Jean Monnet Chair in European Port Policy (JMC-EPP) celebrated Europe Day (9 May) with an educational event at a local high school. On Friday, 8 May, the Chair team visited the 3rd Senior High School of Piraeus , where they organized an educational meeting with the students entitled: “We are Europe”.

The initiative forms part of the Chair’s ongoing efforts to strengthen knowledge and encourage the active participation of young people in European affairs.

📚 Στα πλαίσια των δράσεων της Έδρας Jean Monnet για την Ευρωπαϊκή Λιμενική Πολιτική και με αφορμή την Ημέρας της Ευρώπης (9 Μαΐου), την Παρασκευή 8 Μαΐου η Έδρα θα επισκεφθεί το 3ο Πειραματικό Λύκειο Πειραιά, διοργανώνοντας ενημερωτική συνάντηση με τους μαθητές με τίτλο: «Η Ευρώπη είμαστε εμείς».

🇪🇺 Στόχος της δράσης είναι η ενημέρωση των μαθητών σχετικά με τις βασικές αξίες και το έργο της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης, καθώς και η εξοικείωση με την Ευρωπαϊκή Oλοκλήρωση και τις βασικές αρχές της. 📚 Celebrating Europe Day, the Jean Monnet Chair European Port Policy (JMC-EPP) will visit the 3rd Senior High School of Piraeus on Friday, 8 May, for an educational event titled “We Are Europe.”

🇪🇺 The initiative aims to introduce students to the core values and work of the European Union, while familiarising them with the process of European integration and its fundamental principles.

🇪🇺 With great success, the annual public lecture of the Jean Monnet Chair in European Port Policy on “European Ports: Reflection on policies & strategies for the energy transition” was held on Tuesday, 28 April, 2026, at the Conference Hall of the University of Piraeus.

The lecture brought together students, academics and industry professionals, encouraging meaningful discussion and exchange of ideas on one of the most pressing challenges facing European Port Policy today.

The Chair would like to warmly thank Professor Gordon Wilmsmeier (Hapag-Loyd Center for Shipping and Global Logistics (CSGL), KLU Kühne Logistics University (KLU), Germany & Kühne Professorial Chair in Logistics - Universidad de los Andes, Colombia, PortEconomics.eu) for his valuable contribution, as well as all the participants for their presence and active engagement.

75 years ago, the path to the European Union began. 🇪🇺

On 18 April 1951, the Treaty of Paris was signed, establishing the European Coal and Steel Community.

🇧🇪🇫🇷🇮🇹🇩🇪🇳🇱🇱🇺 joined forces to build a shared market, choosing cooperation over conflict.

Born from the desire for peace and a united Europe after WWII, this treaty laid the foundation for the Union we know today.
