✨ Word of the Week: ABSORBED ✨

English: So interested or engaged in something that you are not paying attention to anything else.

In Frederic Leighton’s painting, we see the artist and his wife completely absorbed in each other’s presence and the creative process. When you are absorbed in a book or a conversation, time seems to stop. This is the best way to learn a language—to be so absorbed in the practice that you forget you are even studying! 🎨📖

Example: "He was so absorbed in his drawing that he didn't hear me enter the room."

English: An outward appearance that covers the true nature or feelings of something or someone.
In Édouard Manet’s famous painting, the barmaid greets the crowd with a professional veneer. While she looks ready to serve and chat, her eyes tell a different story. In English, we use this word to describe a "thin layer" of politeness or happiness that might be hiding a deeper emotion. 🍸✨

Example: "He maintained a veneer of calm during the meeting, but inside he was very stressed."

😊 Word of the Week: AFFABLE 😊

English: Friendly, good-natured, or easy to talk to. In the portraits of the great Greek painter Nikolaos Lytras, we often see faces that look warm and welcoming. Being affable is a fantastic quality to have when learning a language—it means you are open to conversation and ready to connect with new people! 🤝✨

Example: "Our new English teacher is very affable, so don't be afraid to ask any questions!"

English: A feeling of great happiness and exhilaration. Georgia O'Keeffe’s masterpiece, "Sky Above Clouds IV", captures this feeling perfectly. Painted after she looked out of an airplane window, the endless rows of fluffy clouds evoke a sense of pure elation—the feeling of "floating on air," rising above everything, and seeing infinite possibilities! ✨

Example: "She felt a surge of elation when she finally visited the country she had been studying about."

Ελληνικά: Ένα συναίσθημα μεγάλης χαράς, ενθουσιασμού και ψυχικής ανάτασης. Το αριστούργημα της Georgia O'Keeffe, "Sky Above Clouds IV", αποτυπώνει τέλεια αυτό το συναίσθημα.
