🌍 Two Summer Schools. One International Community.

IPICS 2026 and AICYBERSEC 2026 brought together students, researchers, academics, and professionals from across the world, creating a truly international environment for learning, collaboration, and knowledge exchange.

Over two inspiring weeks in Mytilene, participants from diverse countries and academic backgrounds explored the latest developments in cybersecurity, privacy, artificial intelligence, and information security, while exchanging ideas, building lasting friendships, and establishing valuable professional connections.

πŸ“Œ Session Highlight | IPICS 2026 & AICYBERSEC 2026

The final teaching day continued with an engaging session on Trustworthy AI for Energy-Efficient, Decarbonized Buildings and Energy Security, delivered by Prof. Eduard Petlenkov, Tenured Full Professor at Tallinn University of Technology and Head of the Centre for Intelligent Systems.

Participants explored how AI-driven solutions, smart control, and energy informatics can improve the energy efficiency of buildings, optimize HVAC systems, and support decarbonization. The session also examined the transformation of traditional power grids into smart, data-driven energy systems and highlighted the importance of cybersecurity, reliability, and resilience as energy infrastructures become increasingly digital and interconnected.

πŸ“Œ Session Highlight | IPICS 2026 & AICYBERSEC 2026

The final teaching day of IPICS 2026 and AICYBERSEC 2026 began with an insightful session on Machine Unlearning for Cybersecurity Applications, delivered by Dr. Sushma Venkatesh from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.

Participants explored the fundamentals of machine unlearning and how trained AI models can selectively "forget" specific data without being retrained from scratch. The session covered exact and approximate unlearning techniques, privacy and security threats, and cybersecurity applications, highlighting how machine unlearning can remove obsolete, poisoned, malicious, or privacy-sensitive knowledge while preserving model performance.

Today marks the final day of lectures for IPICS 2026 and AICYBERSEC 2026, bringing these two inspiring academic programmes to their final teaching day.

Participants will conclude their learning journey with sessions on Machine Unlearning for Cybersecurity and Trustworthy AI for Energy-Efficient, Decarbonized Buildings and Energy Security, delivered by Dr. Sushma Venkatesh and Prof. Eduard Petlenkov.

As we reach the end of the academic programme, we look forward to one final day of inspiring lectures, engaging discussions, knowledge exchange, and collaboration, bringing together our international community around Artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity, and trustworthy technologies.

Day 11 concluded with the second part of Adversarial Attacks, delivered by Dr. Jeriek van den Abeele.

Participants explored how Large Language Models (LLMs) can be targeted through prompt injection and jailbreak attacks, examining techniques used to bypass safety mechanisms and manipulate AI systems. The session also introduced modern defence strategies, including red teaming, input, model- and output-centric protection methods, secure AI architectures, and the emerging security challenges posed by agentic AI, highlighting the importance of designing trustworthy, resilient, and secure AI systems.

Day 11 continued with a session on Adversarial Attacks, delivered by Dr. Sebastian Heil.

Participants explored how adversarial attacks can manipulate machine learning models by crafting carefully designed inputs that lead AI systems to incorrect predictions or unintended behaviour. The session examined the impact of these attacks on the reliability and robustness of AI applications, highlighting the importance of developing effective defence mechanisms and resilient machine learning models.

πŸ“Œ Session Highlight | IPICS 2026 & AICYBERSEC 2026

Day 11 began with an engaging session on LLM Vulnerabilities, delivered by Assoc. Prof. Nektaria Kalloudi.

Participants explored the rapidly evolving security landscape of Large Language Models (LLMs), examining how these systems work, why their unique characteristics introduce new cybersecurity challenges, and how emerging threats can affect both AI models and the applications that rely on them. The session presented the OWASP Top 10 for LLM Applications, real-world security incidents, prompt injection attacks, sensitive information disclosure, data and model poisoning, supply chain risks, and practical mitigation strategies for developing secure, trustworthy, and resilient AI systems. The lecture also highlighted the importance of adopting an adversarial mindset, continuous security testing, and AI-specific risk management frameworks to strengthen the security of modern AI applications.

Today's programme focuses on two of the most critical challenges in Large Language Model (LLM) Vulnerabilities and Adversarial Attacks. Through lectures by Assoc. Prof. Nektaria Kaloudi, Dr. Sebastian Heil, and Dr. Jeriek van den Abeele, participants will explore emerging threats targeting AI systems, the security challenges of Large Language Models, and advanced adversarial techniques that can compromise machine learning models, while discussing approaches for building more secure, robust, and resilient AI technologies.

Day 10 concluded with the second part of In AI We Trust?, delivered by Assistant Professor Xavier Carpent.

Participants explored the factors that shape public trust in Artificial Intelligence, examining how transparency, accountability, human oversight, and risk influence users' confidence in AI-enabled systems. The session also introduced the principles of the EU AI Act, highlighting its risk-based approach to promoting trustworthy, secure, and responsible AI across Europe.
