Basically Brilliant!

This weekend, Cyprus Coy held their Basic Skills training weekend at Dhekelia in preparation for Annual Camp!

It was a jam-packed weekend consisting of Fieldcraft, Air Rifle Skill at Arms, Shooting, and Navigation training as part of the Army Cadets Syllabus. They also had adults complete the final parts of their Basic Instructor Training!

They kicked off the weekend with a new adult promotion to Sgt 👍. They also celebrated a birthday with cake (which was thoroughly enjoyed after a ration pack evening meal) 🎂 and ended the weekend with basic star and shooting badges for their newest cadets ⭐️

A big well done to all their cadets for their hard work this weekend - now onwards to Annual Camp!

🥾CHARITY SPONSORED WALK – 85 MILES ACROSS CYPRUS! 🇨🇾

3 walkers. 85 miles. 4 days. Starting 6th July! 🗓️

Some of our adults are taking on an incredible challenge – walking 85 miles across Cyprus – starting at Episkopi Army Cadet Detachment and ending in Dhekalia Detachment.
They need YOUR support! 💛

Every penny raised will be equally split between TWO amazing causes:

🇬🇧 Army Cadets – raising money for flights to the UK so our Cyprus cadets can attend their annual camp.
💫One Dream One Wish – Cyprus Association for Children with Cancer and Related Diseases.

A Chinook Challenge!

On Friday, cadets from Episkopi and Dhekelia detachments were lucky enough to experience the flight of a lifetime! Invited by 1310 flt, and hosted by 84 Squadron, Akrotiri, they were given the opportunity to fly in a Chinook helicopter! The experience was certainly never to be forgotten, and they were given a walk through, a talk through of the aircraft itself and a look at the personal kit used, before they actually got to fly over the Western Sovereign Base Area!

The group thoroughly enjoyed joining together for the experience, and bonding over something as exciting as this will further cement the relationship between the two detachments before they fly over to the UK for their Annual Summer Camp.

A huge thank you to their hosts from Akrotiri, and to the adult instructors who work tirelessly to provide these unique opportunities. Memories like this are unforgettable, and cement themselves in our minds. Experiencing the excitement, the anticipation, the support and bonding help to shape future lives, and with opportunities and experiences like those offered through the Army Cadet Force, what a future that will be!

- The Countdown is on!

With just 41 days to go, it’s time to get geared up and ready for ! Places are filled, everything is booked, and now it’s time for the final preparations! The permanent staff team are already on it, with all of those intricate logistical details being sorted, like how to get everyone there and back, all the kit needed and of course, the food! For our adult volunteers, the focus is on streaming the cadets into the right groups, planning the training and ensuring everything is just right. With everyone working together and the cogs all in place, it’s like a perfectly aligned piece of machinery!

This weekend, the HQ and Senior Teams have been finalising some of those more challenging details as they undertook a recce to ‘ ’ where they were able to look at accommodation, training areas and all of those technicalities that an actual on site visit requires. Of course the ultimate goal here is to provide our cadets with the best camp ever. Safe and secure, yet offering challenge, opportunities to step outside their comfort zone, the chance to assess and take risk within a safe environment, independence, resilience, determination: all of those ‘soft skills’ as they are so often called, yet the skills that make us who we are and allow us to manage whatever life throws at us. So often, coping in life is about how you deal with a situation and how you get up and continue when life throws you a curve ball, and that is what we teach our young people to do through the activities and opportunities we offer.

This year, we are sharing with Clwyd and Gwynedd ACF and there might even be a bit of joint training going on!

Whatever happens, it’s time for the summer of your life! is going to be epic - you don’t want to miss it!
