Today Greece celebrates 203 years from the Revolution against the Ottoman Empire. Theodoros Kolokotronis was one of the most important commanders in chief and he said that even if there was only one Greek left, they would still fight.

According to the common desicion between the Greek Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Internal Affairs and Education in 2017, the 9th of February is considered to be the International day of the Greek Language. This choice was more than random, due to the fact that in February 9th 1857 Dionysios Solomos, the national poet of Greece, died. He was the one who tried to connect freedom with the meaning of the language ,not with its typical meaning, but with its wider meaning of a means that enlightens people and drives them to the light of life. In his poems he was the first to cultivate systematically the language that people were using
(demotic language) and he actually opened the road to the general use of this language in Greek literature. Inspired from the struggle of Greek people for their freedom against the Ottoman empire and the Greek revolution of 1821, we wrote the poem “ Ύμνος εις την Eλευθερίαν” (“ Hymn to the Freedom”). The two first verses of this poem are the national anthem of Greece.

Today, the 15th of August, Greek Orthodox Christians honour the dormition of Maria, virgin Mary, Panagia ("all holy"), the mother of Jesus Christ. Is not a day to grieve, but a celebration, because She followed the path of life.
This day is celebrated in each and every corner in Greece with festivals called " panigiria", with food, traditional music and dance. Also, a lot of people celebrate their name today...
