The Hybrid City Conference team and the Laboratory of New Technologies in Communication, Education and the Mass Media (NTLab) of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, National & Kapodistrian University of Athens are delighted to host and help organise the ‘Hackable Citymaking in Athens’, taking place in the context of the Hackable City research project (http://thehackablecity.nl/).
The Hackable City is a research project that explores the opportunities of digital media technologies for the empowerment of citizens and other stakeholders in a democratic process of citymaking.
The Hackable City is administered through the University of Amsterdam and the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences and is funded through a grant of The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO). One Architecture and The Mobile City are (founding) partners in the project.
The Hackable City research project for the International Architecture Biennal Rotterdam is carried out in cooperation with a number of parties involved in the Amsterdam neighbourhood of Buiksloterham: Delva Landscape Architects, Stadslab Buiksloterham and Studioninedots. Together all the ivolved parties have set up an international knowledge exchange with Sao Paulo, Shenzhen and Athens. To find out more about the project and the activities so far, please visit: http://thehackablecity.nl/
In the Symposium in Athens, researchers from the Netherlands will share their experience with ‘hackable citymaking’, followed by a plenary presentation of citymaking projects in Athens.

Thank you Akoo-o collective for an exciting workshop and for the great input you brought to this year's Hybrid City Conference!
Drawing on sound studies, sound arts and walking as social research method and artistic practice, the workshop presented the theory and practice of creating an audiowalk. During the workshop we lead a field-based expedition of walking, mapping, listening and sound recording in the area around the venue, and we process sonic data in the lab in order to develop short sound stories for audio-walk experiences. We used noTours, a free software platform developed by escoitar.org. NoTours promotes the artistic practice of soundwalking through the development of audio composition and playback for locative media applications.
