The ninth edition of the EU-US Young Leaders Seminar took place from 23 to 25 March 2026 in Brussels with the support of Fulbright Belgium and Luxembourg. This year's theme focused on the Future of Skills and Leadership. Co-financed by the European Commission and the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the EU-US Young Leaders Seminar represents a unique opportunity for young leaders from across the United States and the European Union to discuss some of the most important issues facing both sides of the Atlantic. Participants included 25 Americans, current participants in the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, and 25 Europeans, alumni of EU-funded exchange programs.

Merlin D'Souza, 2025-2026 English Teaching Assistant to Greece, was among the participants. This is what Merlin had to say about her experience:

This past March, I had the privilege of attending the 2026 EU–US Young Leaders Seminar in Brussels, focused on the Future of Skills and Leadership. This seminar brought emerging leaders from across Europe and the Fulbright community to discuss challenges and opportunities shaping our professional landscape.

The program's panels and workshops addressed some of the most pressing questions facing organizations and institutions today. We discussed artificial intelligence and workforce transformation. This prompted reflection on efficiency, education, and what it means to have meaningful work. One key insight I gained was in a conflict negotiation workshop, which helped me examine when a compromise is an ineffective solution and how to reach the right solution.

Beyond the structured programming, the seminar created space for genuine dialogue among European peers, fellow Fulbrighters, and senior leaders across sectors. The perspectives brought to these conversations reinforced that navigating an interconnected world requires not only technical competence, but also spaces to connect with others.

I am grateful for the opportunity to represent Greece at this seminar and I appreciate the work of the Fulbright Commission for Belgium/Luxemburg who designed and organized this seminar. Thank you to the European Commission and the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs for funding and supporting this space!
