Within the scope of the VOYOGER project, we continue to produce the ‘Learning Boxes’ as we decided in our last face-to-face meeting in Greece.
In this context, we are creating 50 learning nuggets and 50 challenges for young people! These contents will cover the following topics:
* Zero waste
* Food waste
* Fight against climate change
* Pollution and its effect on health
* Green deal and green life style

Stay tuned for more! Here is a little spoiler about our content, as you can see in the photo below!

We recently wrapped up a very successful online and offline Transnational Partner Meeting for the project in ! Our two-day schedule was jam-packed with thought-provoking talks and cooperative debates. Highlights included updates from ESICA's pilot program, EURASIA's demonstration of the new E-learning platform, and Ecocène's assessment of WP2 goals and outcomes. Along with Pistes Solidaires, we also talked about WP3 action plans and dissemination methods.

In order to encourage young people to participate voluntarily in environmental activities, the next steps involve finishing the learning training modules, making interactive learning boxes, and putting up and launching the e-learning platform. We really appreciate each and every partner's priceless contributions and enthusiastic involvement.

Tomorrow, in the charming city of Greece, the second transnational meeting of the VOYOGER project will take place! We will discuss in detail the content we have produced so far and the next steps and we will come together to finalise the content to be shared with the target groups!

Stay tuned!

Timeline: European climate action 15/07/2024

Let's summarise the European Union's climate change actions from an overview perspective!!!!

Since the 1970s, the European Union has prioritized climate action, implementing a series of policies and agreements to tackle environmental issues and combat climate change. The journey began with efforts to reduce pollution and improve natural environments, leading to the introduction of the first environmental action program in 1987 by the European Commission. Key milestones include the Maastricht Treaty in 1993, which integrated environmental issues as a fully-fledged EU policy area, and the Amsterdam Treaty in 1999, which made sustainable development a key objective. The EU has also adopted minimum standards for environmental inspections in 2001, signed the Paris Agreement in 2015 to limit global temperature rise, and launched the European Green Deal in 2020 with the goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050.

🌱

The EU’s long history of environmental action showcases its commitment to addressing climate change, evolving from the first environmental action program to ambitious goals like the European Green Deal. The Maastricht Treaty’s integration of environmental issues in 1993 and the Amsterdam Treaty’s emphasis on sustainable development in 1999 highlight the EU’s holistic approach. The adoption of environmental inspection standards in 2001 underscores the enforcement of regulations to protect the environment. The signing of the Paris Agreement in 2015 and the European Green Deal’s roadmap to a climate-neutral Europe by 2050 reflect the EU’s dedication to leading global climate action and sustainable practices.

ℹ️ Exciting findings from a recent study on climate change activism! 🌍🌿 Psychological factors like climate change distress and depressive symptoms impact our actions:

The research conducted a longitudinal study involving 414 participants across three waves to investigate the relationship between climate change actions and psychological factors, specifically climate change distress and depressive symptoms. The findings revealed consistent associations between climate change mitigation social norms and engagement in climate change actions, indicating the influence of social norms on individual behavior. Depressive symptoms were found to be linked to specific actions such as volunteering, donating, and attending protests, suggesting a potential impact of mental health on climate change activism. Moreover, the study identified that climate change distress played a significant role in determining the level of involvement in climate change actions, emphasizing the importance of addressing psychological factors in promoting environmental engagement. Additionally, demographic variables like income and race were shown to influence participation in climate change activism, highlighting the need for a comprehensive understanding of the interplay between individual characteristics and environmental behavior. Overall, the study underscored the significance of considering both psychological and social dynamics in efforts to encourage climate change action and sustainability initiatives.

If we do not act now, there will be more plastic than fish in our oceans by the year 2050.

Did you know that?

If Europeans swapped to reusable water bottles 6,741 tons of plastic would be prevented each year.

💧 According to the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), about 75% of the terrestrial environment and 40% of the marine environment have been seriously altered globally. 😧 As the world's biodiversity declines and the global ecological footprint exceeds biological capacity, Europe's ecological deficit could lead to depletion of natural capital, loss of biodiversity, and ecosystem collapse in other parts of the world. 🐳

🌇 Construction and alteration in urban areas affect many species that used to inhabit urban environments, accounting for about 10% of "urban" pressures. 🏖 Much of the European coastline has been modified for tourism, leaving little room for intact marine areas and coastal habitats. Birds that float above the water, such as ducks, geese, herons, and endangered birds of prey, are seriously affected if their nesting sites are destroyed. 🦆 However, the EEA report "Europe's Environment - State and Prospects 2020" notes that the EU can play a positive role in tackling these global challenges through its economic, diplomatic, and trade ties, as well as its leadership in environmental governance. 🌐 Europe's product standards and business practices can have a positive impact far beyond the continent's borders. 📈

🌿🌏 The “VOYOGER” project, co-funded by the European Union, aims to promote volunteering and active citizenship among young people through volunteering and solidarity actions based on their daily life and their will to adapt or change their attitude toward a more aware and eco-friendly everyday life. 🤞🌱📣 "VOYOGER" is a project co-funded by the European Union, encouraging young people to engage with environmental and climate change issues by providing them with special educational materials that allow them to develop in these areas. ✨

🌟 Our project is on a mission to inspire and educate young minds about environmental issues and climate change through engaging activities. 🔍 Objectives include sparking environmental awareness among youth, creating innovative search-based education, developing training materials and curricula, encouraging volunteerism for environmental initiatives, and crafting a mobile application and online game for an interactive learning experience. 🚀 Implementation involves diving into impactful research, conducting comprehensive training sessions, creating educational materials, mobile apps, and online games, raising awareness through dynamic campaigns, and fostering collaboration with meetings and events. 🌈 Expected results include efficient project management, a digital toolkit for environmental training, an engaging mobile application and online game, initiation of a youth volunteering program, and increased environmental awareness among the youth and the broader community. 🌏 Long-term benefits aim to cultivate a more environmentally conscious and engaged youth population. 🤝 Join us on this incredible journey towards a sustainable future! Let's empower our youth to be the change-makers our planet needs. 🌟🌎💚
