FOODBIOMES at the Bio3-2024 forum, organised by BioInnovation Greece at Technopolis Gazi, Athens, on September 1-5, 2024
Representing FOODBIOMES, Prapa, alongside Paraskevakos and Massot from Zoefarma, gave a talk on "Probiotic Biobanks and the Case for Disease Prevention" in the 8th session of the Conference, entitled "Developing Biobanks to Understand Human Diseases.
The presentation was focused on the findings of a study on novel strains isolated from olive samples collected in Monemvasia, Peloponnese, Greece that was conducted at the FOODBIOMES facilities. After identification at species level, the new strains were evaluated for their potential health-promoting properties through a series of in vitro assays. The future steps and industrial perspectives were further analyzed and discussed, with an emphasis on the significance of discovering novel probiotic strains with specific activities for the food and pharmaceutical industry.

FOODBIOMES at the HDA congress, Athens, Greece, 8-10 December 2023
👉 Recent advances in our research on functional food ingredients and in particular on herbs and aromatic plants as bioactive substances, on probiotics and gastrointestinal health in diabetes and on the viability of immobilized probiotic cells, were presented by our coordinator Yiannis Kourkoutas, our partner leader Koutelidakis Antonios and our researcher Panagiota Potsaki during the first two days of the congress. A poster presentation on a clinical study evaluating the effects of a Lactococcus strain on blood and urine biomarkers was delivered by our researcher Panoraia Bousdouni complementing the active presence of FOODBIOMES at the congress.

🤗 We are happy to announce the successful completion of our recent workshop titled "Hands-On Workshop on Pilot Scale Production of Novel Functional Food Ingredients," which took place from July 21st to July 24th, 2023 at the Democritus University of Thrace - (D.U.Th.).
The event provided a unique opportunity to delve into the captivating field of probiotic biomass production, cell immobilization on food-grade supports rich in prebiotic fibers, and the application of advanced drying methods.
😃 We were delighted to have a diverse group of four professionals participating in the workshop. The attendees hailed from academia and provided valuable expertise from various backgrounds, including nutrition, food technology and biology.
👉 The workshop's content and hands-on approach were of great interest to our participants, as it allowed them to gain valuable experience in a rapidly evolving area of research and application. Exploring the production of novel functional food ingredients and learning about cutting-edge techniques was both enlightening and inspiring for everyone involved.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the attendees for their active participation and enthusiasm throughout the workshop. It is through such collaborative efforts that we continue to advance and innovate in the realm of functional food ingredients.

📣 An Outstanding Seminar by FOODBIOMES!
We are thrilled to announce that George Paraskevakos, Executive Director of the International Probiotics Association, will be here with us on 24th of July 2023 to deliver a seminar entitled "Probiotic considerations: from Bench to Market and Everything In-between".
🚀 This seminar will take students along the value chain of probiotics, the largest Food and Dietary Supplement category with the VMS space.
We will explore a rapidly evolving field from different perspectives. We want to provide an insight and better understanding of the field from a scientific basis for these products, key regulatory and manufacturing considerations and finally consumer perspectives.
Oversight will be provided on basics from R&D, to formulating products, Quality considerations, Manufacturing, and Labelling to Commercialization.

A 3-day event on biotic science, market insights and networking has come to an end.
Probiota 2023 and the IPA world congress was a fantastic opportunity for the team to gain valuable insights and to promote a sample of the three-year research work on novel probiotic cultures, new botanicals and functional food ingredients that has been conducted by our researchers.
Our poster presentations in the Scientific frontiers session on novel probiotic strains for functional food ingredients and on Salvia officinalis plant extracts as functional regulators of food microbiota gave rise to new strong collaborations.
Special thanks to our colleagues Yiannis Kourkoutas, Paraskevi Somalou, Grigoria Mitropoulou and Panayiotis Panas for representing FOODBIOMES in this great event and to our entire team for this great research work.

Our researchers at International Conference!
FOODBIOMES participated at the 30 FFC International Conference that was held at Myrina, Lemnos, Greece on 23-25 September 2022.
Pre-clinical data of new strains, natural extracts as food preservatives, wine-making with immobilized kefir cultures, functional food ingredients for Type-1 diabetes and the exploitation of hempseed for product development were the main research projects presented by our researchers.
During the International Conference, awards were given to our researchers at the following categories:
