Leiria (Portugal) has various examples of tangible, intangible and natural heritage that are reflective of its unique identity and history.

Students from Agrupamento de Escolas de Marrazes were involved in a variety of activities that increased their knowledge regarding some of those examples, namely the classified National Monument Leiria Castle, particularly its history, functionality, architecture, decoration and embedded values.

ICT activities – such as virtual tours using Google Earth Web, digital quizzes, robot programming and 3D printing, 3D scanning and 3D modelling activities – engaged them and were an important contribute to the enhancement of that knowledge, while developing related ICT skills.

Third Kindergarten of Archangelos Rhodes... Ceramic Art (intangible cultural heritage)...
Pottery art in Rhodes and especially in Archangelos of Rhodes is an integral element of history, tradition and culture, so we chose it because it would make it easier for children to construct concepts related to their place and its past. The skillful hands of craftsmen have, for years, given form and shape to the soil, creating utilitarian and decorative objects of exceptional quality and high aesthetics.
3D Printing
With the information they have acquired about ceramic art, the toddlers did:
• on the print of an Ancient Greek Vase (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4731266)
• in the scanning with the 3dscanning of ceramic vases of the Archangel of Rhodes
• in printing them on the 3D Printer after scanning them
(https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4731266)

Third Kindergarten of Archangelos Rhodes - HORSE OF RHODES (natural cultural heritage)
The small horse of Rhodes, due to its small physical size but also its long history, is a separate breed of horse, which differentiates it from all animals of its kind. Its genetic material is autochthonous, because it was created in the Greek area without substantial intervention of genetic science. In other words, it is a living monument of the past of great value.
Activities
• Reading the book "Little Dreamer Big Chief"
• Watch an educational film (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTSLykUzGfU) "The Horse of Rhodes LIVES".
• 3D Printing

I am glad to present you a 3D representation of the Classical-Era Temple of Pallinis Athena, in modern-day Gerakas, Attica. I made that representation as an stl. file by using Blender as a 3D designing program.

The 3D representation (that in its stl. format, is also printable for 3D-printers) was designed based on the following sources of information:

a.) The description of the Classical temple made in the article of the archaeologist, mis Maria Platonos-Giota, published in the journal Αρχαιολογία & Τέχνες (Archaeology & Arts) on December 1997 (issue 63).
b.) The graphic representation made by the professor, mister Manolis Korres (that I also include, as an image).
c.) Elements from the upper parts of other Classical-Era attic temples that are considered creations of the same ancient architect, the so-called Thiseion Architect (we call him that way, because his name is not known from written sources) and mainly of the temple of Hephaestus at Thiseion, Athens and of the temple of Poseidon at Sounion. The relative information was extracted both from photographs of those temples and from the book of the professor, mister Dimitris Plantzos “Greek Art and Archaeology: 1100-30 BC” (KAPON Editions, 2011).
d.) Measurements made by the use of Google Earth (in order to verify the dimensions, given in the aforementioned article).

According to the ancient writers, in the area of Pallene (that back then also included the area of modern-day Gerakas) was a very important ancient sanctuary, dedicated to the goddess Athena Pallinis. The temple was erected in the place, where, according to the legend, the goddess of wisdom vanquished the giant Pallas (during the Gigantomachy, the mythical war of the Olympians against the mighty Giants).

During the Archaic Period, before the Persian Wars, in the area was a smaller temple, the architectural remains of which are also present in the site. But during the Classical Era, a new temple was built, to the West of the Archaic one and is considered by modern archaeologists a creation of the Architect of Thiseion. This fact makes that specific temple a “brother-temple” of the Temple of Hephaestus at Thiseion, of the Temple of Poseidon at Sounion and of the Temple of Nemesis at Ramnous, near Marathon.

During the reign of the Roman Emperor Octavian, a big part of the structural material of the Classical temple was moved away and more material was taken during the Middle-Byzantine period, when parts of the temple were incorporated into the structure of a small Christian church, dedicated to Saint John (Ioannis) the Theologist. Despite the fact that the temple of Athena Pallinis was mentioned in various ancient texts, its exact location was unknown until the end of the 20th century. But in 1994, during the building of houses in the region, the builders discovered the ancient temple and called in the Archaeological Service.

Today, the archaeological site of the Sanctuary of Athena Pallinis, divided into three different plots of land on and near the Zalongou street, at Gerakas, unfortunately, is not open for visitors and has yet to be properly organized into a proper archaeological site, which could highlight the local history of the town and boost the local economy, by attracting tourists.

The 3D model of the Classical temple was created in order to issue the request of many of the inhabitants of the region to properly utilize their local Cultural Heritage.
