*Fangkung Fangkung. If our country (The Gambia) was a cow it is getting thiner and thiner everyday. The reason is because people ( the Gambian people) are only interested in what they can get from the cow ( the country) but they don't care about the welfare of the cow.

What I'm trying to say in other words is that, everyday the problems of the country are getting bigger and bigger and that's because people are not trying to fix this country. Everyone is trying to make enough money so that the problems this country is facing don't apply to them and their families anymore. Trust me that's a dangerous and truly scary situation.

As I said, the cow (our country) is getting thiner and thiner and the reason responsible for it getting thiner and thiner everyday is because it's owners ( the people) are exploiting it daily instead of adding value to it. Your country is getting thiner and thiner in every aspect because of your attitude and behaviour towards it. You're only interested in taking from it through unscrupulous activities exploiting it's resources and funds. You see, if you have a cow that provide you with milk don't just focus on getting milk from it.

Remember if you fail to take good care of it e.g giving it good food taking care of it's health condition etc someday you'll not be able to get the milk you want from it. Why? The reason is because it (the cow) will not be healthy and if it is not healthy it might die and if it is dead where are you going to get milk from?

Listen to me, it is the same thing with our country (the Gambia) if people continue focusing on what they can get from the country without giving back to the country adding value to it then, there will come a time when the country won't be able to give anything to it's people because it has nothing to offer anymore. It's people have exploited wasted it's resources and funds through indiscipline selfishness greed etc.

When I look at the mindset of the youth in my society I cry inside. They don't value themselves, they don't know what to prioritize, they don't focus and act on important priorities and they don't think. Talk to them about stuff that has to do with their lives and the lives of their loved ones or something that's for the good of their society they will not listen. But present rubbish to them and see how they will run towards you in their thousands. How can such a society take itself to places it need to be? What a sad society.

From the day we gain our sovereignty or self government as a nation is like, a fire was started. Those that negotiated our self government are the people who started the fire, and up till date that fire is still burning. And the thing about that fire is that, we must not let it die. It's the responsibility of every Gambian to throw his/her log (contribute) into that fire in other words, the development of the country.

The fire is our development as a nation, the moment we gain our self government as a nation was the time we decided to take our destiny in our own hands. As I said the fire is burning, in other words we're developing and we shouldn't kill that fire ( destroy our country) everyday we should think about adding more wood into the fire in order to keep it burning, which is working daily to improve our country.

Every Gambian has the potential to add wood to the burning fire, in other words every gambian has the potential to add value to Gambia through positively giving out their energy and resources for the improvement of their various communities. But if we continue to take from the already burning fire in order to start our own individual fires then there will come a time our collective fire will die out. What I mean by this is, if we continue to steal public funds and engage in other unscrupulous and unacceptable selfish behaviors through coruption the development we're hoping for will never be realized.

Every gambian should know that they have the potential to add value to their country, each and every one of us is having a log in his/her hand and is expected to throw it into the already burning fire so that the flames can grow bigger. If the flames become bigger the sorrounding area becomes brighter and that's exactly what will happen if everyone of us try to add positive value to the country we will begin to see positive changes.

But for some people instead of throwing their log in to the fire ( add value to gambia) they took from the burning fire in order to selfishly start their own individual fires through corupt activies. Others pour water into the burning fire through engaging in corupt activities. These kind of individuals should be dealt with severely according to the law, because these are the type of people who keep us stagnant at one point without moving forward as a nation through their corupt behavior.

What we must always remember is that just like the anchor is used to moor a ship at the bottom of the ocean so does coruption to a developing country. Let's keep the fire burning daily, we shouldn't engage in stuff that will kill the fire ( stop us from moving forward) throw your log into the fire in order to keep it burning through positively contributing in the improvement of your community. If you do the right stuff whether people see you or not, know that you're adding value to the country. But if you engage in corupt and unscrupulous activities whether people know it or not know that you're killing the fire and if caught should be dealt with severely according to the law.

Scientifically it is believed that we have five sense organs. A sense organ is a organ of the body which respond to external stimuli by sending impulse to the mind. The five organs of our bodies which can respond to external stimuli and send impulse to the brain are 1. The nose. 2. The ear. 3. The skin. 4. The tongue. 5. The eyes. The sense organ for seeing is the eye. The sense organ for smelling is the nose. The sense organ for feeling is the skin. The sense organ for hearing is the ears and the sense organ for tasting is the tongue.

Personally what I believe is that, anyone who only rely on these five sense organs in order to know what's happening to them or around them is a average person and he/ she is in a State of mediocrity. In others words that person is average in quality and lack flair or inspiration. We must use our mind correctly in order to prevent ourselves from being in a State of mediocrity. Example of people who are average in quality are those who can only see through using the main eye. Hear only through using the main ear. Taste only through using the main tongue. Only feel through making contact with their skin and smell only through using their nose.

The mind is the most powerful device on earth. When we train it and use it to think positively we can achieve great things. Training our mind daily to think positively is simply having the power to direct it in the direction we want it to focus. Whether you're aware of it or not, every day people are trying to direct your mind to places they want your mind to be directed and if you let that happen then you're finish. You must do everything possible to make sure you don't let people be the ones who direct your mind.

You see, the thing about using our minds properly is that if we have control or command over it we can see without using the main eyes. Feel things without it even making contact with our skin. Hear things without using our main ear. What we can use to see without using the main eye is what I call the mind's eye. What we can use to hear stuff the main ear can't hear is the mind's ear. What we can use to taste things the main tongue can't taste is the mind's tongue. What we can use to feel thing our main skin can't feel is the mind's skin. And what we can use to smell stuff our main nose can't smell is the mind's nose. When you're someone who can only see to believe taste with the tongue in order to taste make physical contact with the skin before you feel smell only be using the main nose and only hear through using the main ear then you're average in quality you lack flair or inspiration. Having command over our mind requires training daily.

People society refer to as geniuses are not different from the rest of the people, what made them what they're is their ability to direct their mind at the right places. They're not magicians or people who posses super powers, what made them to achieve stuff ordinary people can't achieve is their ability to think. Few things we should know about having command over our mind is that, when we use it properly 1. people will find it difficult to fool us. 2. You will have the potential to do great things. 3. You'll no be that guy who do things because everyone is doing it. 4. Some of the stuff society see as relevant things you'll see that as irrelevant.

Nowadays our societies are in a State that if one is In a state mediocrity meaning if you're average in quality lack flair or inspiration you can easily be manipulated. It is important that we try and use our most powerful device ( the mind) daily to think. Most people are in a State of mediocrity they can only believe what they see, they can only feel what they've made contact with. They can only hear what their main ear can hear etc and that's because they're not in control of their mind.

When most of the people in a society are in a State of mediocrity it is easier for tyrants and dictators to manipulate them because these kind of people don't think. The thing about mediocres is that any one who can supply them with illusions is easily their master. Whoever attempts to stop their illusion is always their victim. Tyrants and corrupt leaders use mediocres in order to get what they want and that's because one of the strategy of tyranny is to make the voices that speak in oposition sound like insane ranks. The more the system make people who point out the insanity in leadership look insane they win. I advise you to use your mind daily. Think positively daily because is the only way you can prevent yourself from being in a State of mediocrity. In order words prevent yourself from being average in quality and lacking flair or inspiration.

I have to say in this country leaders don't get the trust of the people they lead as they would've wanted; and that's because they're doing the opposite of what they should be doing. Nobody is born with TRUST, it is something you must earn as John rightfully asserted.
How can leaders earn the TRUST of the people they lead?
1. Leaders must make sure there is an alignment between what they say and do. No leader's relationship with his people will last if the leaders words and action do not align.
2. If a leader want to gain the trust of his/ her people, their attitude towards them and how much they value them is really important. People will only trust leaders who value them and continue to add value to them daily.
John rightfully asserted that TRUST is the fundation of any relationship, so if leaders want to have a good and lasting relationship with their subjects then they must do the things that will make them earn the TRUST of their people.
The truth is people in this country don't TRUST their leaders and that's because, the leaders are not investing in their trustworthy account as John puts it. Leaders are withdrawing from the account instead ( coruption, embezzlement of public funds, injustice and the lack of alignment of what they say and do ) and as long as these behavior continue they won't get the of most of the people they lead.

I was talking to myself the other day, and I asked myself what real success mean to me. This is a very important question, a question that I believe if people ask themselves frequently and have the right answer to it this world would have been a better place.
Success to me is not the goals I achieve in life, what I do with the goals I achieve is what determine my level of success. What I mean by this is that having a lot of money, being highly educated, having your dream job, being popular, etc these are all goals that people have in their lives and they struggle daily to achieve them. Now what they do with there goals ( being highly educated, having alot of money, secureing a dream job, popularity etc) is what will determine their level or success. In other words you can't be successful if you fail to add value to the community you live and the people around you.
Achieving your goals will help make things easier for you to be successful because it will increase your potential to do more great thing of adding value to your surrounding.
But I must also remind you that failing to achieve your goals shouldn't and can't stop you from being successful. Because everyone has the potential to add value into the lives of those around him/her. The amount of value you add to others doesn’t matter, what matters is your efforts. You don't need alot of money in order to live a successful life, you can live a successful life even without alot of wealth. You can have a lot of wealth and yet fail to live a successful life.
I'm praying for anyone reading this to achieve his/her goals and also pray that you use your the goals you achieve positively through adding value to your community and the people around you. Because to me that's what true success is, and is what I wish for myself and you.
Goals e.g wealth, education, job positions, titles, popularity, material things etc are all temporary stuffs, but when we use them positively through adding value to others they become everlasting which in turn make you a successful person. That is why people who use the goals they achieve positively are always honored even after death because they've turned their temporal goals to everlasting success and to me that's what real success is all about.

Few months ago I wrote about the state of the African mind, I said we're in a state of dormancy. You see the imperialist have alot of strategies in place designed to keep us mentally enslaved and one of these strategies is the awarding of our potential future leaders, people of influence and decision makers scholarships to study in their countries. The aim is to mold them into what they want them to be so that when this people return to their various countries they think like the imperialist and end up being their agents in our countries.
The imperialist know that the best way to control or manipulate others is through teaching them or making them believe that what you give them is the best. Africans don't need European solutions for African problems. I'm not against Africans traveling to Europe to further their studies, what I'm reminding Africans is the hidden agenda behind the scholarships given to their potential future leaders, decision makers etc because the aim is to mold our future leaders, people of great influence and decision makers to be what they need them to be.
Anytime an African is awarded a scholarship to study in britain they celebrate as if they've won a lottery, but the truth behind the scholarship is hidden. Do you think these people will waste millions in giving African students scholarships yearly? In some cases they're looking for the human resources that is why brilliant African students never return but they're given citizenship. African student should follow the footsteps of the young pan africanist from The Gambia Ousman Touray who said he prefer to study here in african than going to Europe to study. As I said African problems can only be solved by African solutions.
We must wake up, africa cannot be liberated if our potential future leaders, decision makers and people of influence are taught be the imperialist. We must invest in our education systems so that we can have the ability to have solutions to the problems we face daily as africans without relying on others.
