The University of The Gambia (UTG) conducted an orientation session for students selected to participate in this year’s Erasmus KA171 mobility program. The event was designed to provide students and staff with essential information on the academic and cultural exchange opportunities offered by this program, emphasizing their potential to enrich both personal growth and professional development.
The ceremony was chaired by Mr. Alieu Jarju, International Relations Officer, and also attended by Vice Chancellor Professor Herbert Robinson, Acting Registrar Mr. Bobo Baldeh, Mr. Muhammed Hydara Senior Assistant Registrar, and Musa Ceesay, an alumnus of the Erasmus exchange program. Mr. Jarju shared the Vice Chancellor's message, stressing the importance of making the most of the opportunities available. He encouraged students to build strong relationships and networks with their peers and faculty at Universidad de Jean, highlighting that these connections would be crucial not only for academic and professional success but also for personal growth.
This initiative is part of UTG’s strategic goals to enhance the student experience.

This collaboration aims to drive connectivity and foster innovative solutions that will benefit both The University of The Gambia and Africell.
The agreement was formally signed by Mr. Musa Sise, representing Africell, and Professor Herbert Robinson, Vice Chancellor of The University of The Gambia, cementing this important partnership for the future.

The University of The Gambia hosted a knowledge exchange session with distinguished guests from the University of the District of Columbia and The Soil Solution "NGO" to discuss the advancement of agriculture both within the University and beyond. The session was led by our Vice Chancellor, Professor Herbert Robinson, and the Dean of the UTG School of Agriculture, Dr. Lamin KM Fatty, who emphasized the University’s commitment to transforming agriculture for national growth.
Other key speakers included Mr. Mustapha Ceesay from Soil Solutions and Professor Andy Blunk from the University of the District of Columbia. Both presenters highlighted their efforts in promoting agricultural research and bio-soil management.

On Monday, December 23, 2024, a remarkable milestone was achieved as the Ministry of Health of The Gambia generously donated an ambulance to the University of The Gambia, Faraba Banta Campus.
The handing-over ceremony, held at the Faraba Banta Campus, was graced by the Minister of Higher Education Research Science and Technology; the Vice Chancellor of UTG; UTG staff and representatives from the Students' Union.
This invaluable asset will significantly boost the campus's emergency response capabilities, ensuring faster access to nearby healthcare centers during emergencies.
We extend heartfelt gratitude to the Student Union President and his executive for their relentless efforts in lobbying for this ambulance, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to student welfare.
Special recognition also goes to the Vice Chancellor of UTG, the Ministry of Health The Gambia and the Ministry of Higher Education,Research Science and Technology for their steadfast support and collaboration, which brought this initiative to fruition.

The University of The Gambia (UTG), in collaboration with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), has successfully concluded a transformative two-day training workshop on the use of Artificial Intelligence in modern education. Over 30 dedicated UTG faculty members participated, marking a key step towards revolutionizing teaching and learning at the UTG
The Deputy Vice Chancellor for Teaching & Learning, Prof. Kayode Adekeye, also Project Coordinator, expressed his excitement about AI’s potential to reshape UTG’s academic landscape. Dr. William Jabang, Chief Director of Operations, commended the workshop as a valuable addition to enhancing the UTG educational curriculum under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Herbert Robinson.
Facilitated by Dr. Adewale Adesina, the appointed consultant by the Commonwealth of Learning, the workshop covered essential AI principles and practical applications, equipping UTG faculty members to deliver more innovative and engaging learning experiences.
The training concluded with emphasis on implementing AI insights in daily academic practice, supporting UTG’s mission to advance educational excellence.

Strengthening Global Partnerships through Experiential Learning!
Today, our Vice Chancellor, Professor Herbert Robinson hosted Dr. Shannon Marquez, Dean of Global Engagement and Director of the Columbia University Center for Undergraduate Engagement. The meeting highlighted the introduction of our Experiential Learning Program, aimed at enhancing student experiences in collaboration with partner universities.
A special moment during the event was the presentation of a certificate of completion to Mr. Ismaila Trawally, a proud student of the University of The Gambia, for his participation in the Global Columbia Collaboratory hosted by Columbia University.
The event also featured a presentation and launch of the UTG Experiential Learning Initiative to our Deans, Directors, and students. This reflects the University management's commitment to broadening staff exposure and increasing student involvement in transformative learning experiences.

University of The Gambia Signs Landmark MOU with South Carolina State University
Kanifing, August 9, 2024 – The University of The Gambia (UTG) signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with South Carolina State University (SCSU), marking a significant step towards strengthening international collaboration in education, research, and innovation. The ceremony, which took place at the UTG Kanifing campus, was attended by esteemed leaders from both institutions.
Representing the University of The Gambia, Vice Chancellor Professor Herbert Robinson expressed his gratitude to the delegation from South Carolina State University for their commitment to forging a partnership with UTG. “We are honoured that South Carolina State University has chosen to collaborate with the University of The Gambia. This MOU represents our shared commitment to expanding stakeholder engagement, enhancing teaching and learning experiences, and driving forward research and innovation for development,” stated Professor Robinson.
The South Carolina State University delegation was led by Colonel Alexander Conyers, President of SCSU, accompanied by key members of his senior management team. The partnership aims to facilitate academic exchanges, joint research initiatives, and capacity-building programs that will benefit both institutions and contribute to the global academic community.
Following the MoU signing, Dr. Louis Whitesides, Vice President for Research and Extension Programs at SCSU delivered an insightful presentation on “Research Possibilities in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.” Dr. Whitesides highlighted the transformative potential of AI in various fields and discussed opportunities for collaborative research that could harness these advancements to address global challenges.

UTG & NAO Collaborate on Public Sector Audit Training
The University of The Gambia in collaboration with The Gambia National Audit Office -NAO organized a day long training on public sector audit.
Our Chief Director of Operations, Dr. William Jabang, delivered the welcoming remarks, highlighting the training as a valuable opportunity for our students.
Dr. Jabang encouraged students to fully engage with the training, emphasizing the importance of understanding the frameworks that ensure transparency and accountability. “A good number of you will be absorbed into the public sector, and it is essential to understand the framework created to ensure transparency and accountability in your work,” he stated.
We thank the NAO for offering the training to enhanc students' experience. Expanding students’ experience is a key priority for UTG, and we are committed to creating more opportunities like this to equip our students with the skills they need for their future careers.
