This was followed by the recessional, as the President led the procession out, marking the official end of the ceremony and the beginning of new journeys beyond the University.

The Convocation Ceremony continued with the presentation of awards, honouring outstanding graduates for their academic excellence, discipline, and exceptional performance across various faculties. The valedictory address was delivered by Mr. Ebrima Soumare of the School of Arts and Sciences, speaking on behalf of the graduating class. His remarks reflected on a shared journey marked by challenges, growth, and achievement, while expressing heartfelt gratitude to families, and the entire University community.

He also conveyed a forward-looking message of hope, responsibility, and a strong commitment to making meaningful impact beyond the university walls.

In a proud and symbolic tradition, the Chancellor of the University of The Gambia and President of the Republic formally conferred degrees upon the graduating class, marking the culmination of years of dedication, resilience, and academic pursuit.

Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, former President of the African Development Bank, reflected on his longstanding collaborations with the University of The Gambia and the country during his statement at the Convocation Ceremony.

He highlighted the strong partnerships built over the years, noting that he has not only found professional engagement in The Gambia, but also a place he considers home.

Special Guest of Honour, Professor Doudou Ngom, representing the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, Senegal commended the University of The Gambia for its continued commitment to academic excellence and human capital development during his statement at the Convocation Ceremony.

He emphasized the critical role of higher education in driving innovation, research, and national progress, while encouraging the graduating students to apply their knowledge and skills towards the sustainable development of The Gambia.

Prof. Herbert Robinson, Vice Chancellor of the University of The Gambia, has highlighted a historic moment for the institution during his address at the Convocation Ceremony, noting that 1,633 students are graduating this year the highest number in the University’s history.

He described the achievement as a reflection of the University’s continued growth and expanding contribution to national development, while commending the graduating class for reaching this significant academic achievement.

Representative of Vice Chancellors of Sister Institutions outside of the Gambia delivered the Goodwill Message.

This gesture is a symbol of unison and a projection of the power of collaboration amongst learning institutions to delivering excellence.

The ceremony commenced with prayers led by religious leaders from both the Muslim and Christian communities, invoking blessings, guidance, and gratitude for the occasion.

This was preceded with an opening statement delivered by the Chairperson of the Governing Council highlighting the Council’s continued commitment to strengthening the University of The Gambia as a centre of academic excellence.

The address reflected ongoing efforts to advance innovation, leadership development, and institutional growth, while reaffirming the University’s broader contribution to national development and the future of its graduates.

A vibrant atmosphere fills the air as The Vice Chancellor, UTG Governing Council, Senators, Minister of the Ministry of Higher Education,Research Science and Technology and the President of the Republic of The Gambia arrives at the ceremony grounds, accompanied by other distinguished guests and high-level dignitaries.

The proceedings take a solemn turn as the Mace is carried with dignity to signify the official authority and commencement of the Convocation Ceremony, followed by the playing of the National Anthem. The audience rises in respect as the moment reflects unity and national pride.
