We have a reason to celebrate one of the alumni from the Faculty of Law at The University of The Gambia, Brigadier General Ousman Gomez, for his recent appointment as the Deputy Chief of Defence Staff of the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF).
We would like to extend our warmest congratulations on your well-deserved promotion! Your unwavering commitment, dedication, and exceptional skills have undoubtedly led to this remarkable achievement.
It is truly inspiring to witness the success of our alumni, especially in such significant positions within the military. Your appointment as the Deputy Chief of Defence Staff not only reflects your personal accomplishments, but also highlights the excellence of our alma mater.

WAILA to train Gambia’s community paralegals
The Gambia Faculty of Law Alumni Association (UTG-FLAA) and The West African Institute for Legal Aid (WAILA) is set to conduct two days of intensive training for Community-Based Paralegals. The training which will be held from 15-16 October at the UTG Conference Hall aims at building just societies, sustainability of legal aid and legal empowerment in The Gambia.
According to the organisers, the major objective of this project is to increase the coverage and sustainability of legal aid services through legal empowerment and Community-Based Paralegal programs as powerful tools of justice delivery and ensuring access to justice for all in The Gambia.
The West African Institute for Legal Aid (WAILA) was established in 2013 by a group of young lawyers in The Gambia, who are committed to achieving access to justice and Human Rights.

(1) Membership of the Association is open to any person who has been awarded a Bachelor of Laws (LLB), Master of Laws (LLM), Ph.D. in Law degree or an honorary degree, from The University of The Gambia Faculty of Law and once they are subscribed they shall be considered as regular members of the Association.

Aims and objectives
The aims and objectives of the Association are to –
(a) foster the lifelong bonds between the University of The Gambia Faculty of Law and its Alumni as well as dedicate efforts to involve alumni in the activities of the Faculty of Law.
(b) advance interest and promote the welfare of the University of The Gambia Faculty of Law and its alumni;
(c) foster and strengthen unity amongst members of the Association;
(d) to develop positive relationship, show respect and understanding to all members of the Association;
(e) pull our resources together, to provide moral, social and economic support for members of the Association and the University of The Gambia Faculty of Law;
(f) encourage, pursue and engage others in the provision of philanthropic activities in The University of The Gambia Faculty of Law;
(g) facilitate co-operation and togetherness amongst members of the Association, to resolve our issues and differences in order to achieve a cohesive union;
(h) provide opportunities for networking and appropriate avenues for professional development;
(i) meet, deliberate and formulate plans and measures deemed appropriate to advance the betterment and progress of the members of the Association and the University of The Gambia Faculty of Law;
(j) organised activities to promote the bonding between The University of The Gambia Faculty of Law and its alumni;
(k) raise funds for the activities of the Association;
(l) accept grants, donations and legacies of all kinds; and
(m) engage in other activities that are conducive to the furtherance of the objectives of the Association.
