Today is International Migrants Day! An increasing number of people decide every year to work and live abroad. It is estimated that 90.000 Gambians live abroad and that their remittances make up for 20% of the country’s GDP! However, when they return, they often face many challenges! This is why the project Skills for Reintegration support returning migrants. The project offers vocational training courses designed to get returnees back on their feet financially. At the same time, the project also targets young people from rural areas to give them a perspective!

Before the students in Mansa Konko left for their well-deserved break, they organized a grill party on their last day. The idea was to unite the two classes and celebrate the first two months of the course. The students built a grill in the mechanic workshop, calculated the amount and cost of the food, bought all the necessary ingredients, cooked and finally cleaned everything. The students divided the tasks between themselves so that everyone helped to make the grill party a success!

Before the new school year starts next week, where the students will dive deep into the fields of solar technology and rural mechanics, 11 women and 29 men participated in a one-month pre-course. They had the chance to get to know their classmates and teachers, as well as get familiar with the campus and workshops. The focus of the pre-course was on self-development, promoting so-called soft skills and life skills through different activities such as self-reflection exercises, discussions and cooperation games.
