☀️💇🏾‍♀️Day 12 of our Summer Skills Program brought Hairdressing & Beauty Cosmetology Week to a beautiful close.

Our amazing participants explored the art of braiding, starting with simple braiding techniques and getting the chance to practise for themselves. It was lovely to see the concentration, patience and excitement as they worked through each step.

We were also joined by Bright Future: The House of Art, who brought a different energy to the day with music, dance and words of wisdom for our young learners. There was plenty of singing, dancing and laughter—a great way to end the week.

A heartfelt thank you to our tutors, Fatoumata Dobasin, Amelia Mansal and Lady Mariama King, for the patience, commitment and care they have shown throughout the week.

Thank you for always empowering and transforming the lives of youth and women in The Gambia.

☀️💄Day 11 was a makeup kind of day at our summer skills program.

The children spent the session learning how to work on brows, apply concealer and practise shading techniques.

There was also something special about seeing our current students step in and share their own knowledge with the children. They demonstrated, answered questions and helped them work through the different techniques.

One skill shared can inspire another person to discover a new interest.

☀️Day 10 of our Summer Skills Program and the learning continues in Hairdressing & Beauty Cosmetology.

Our participants explored facial treatments and pedicure, learning the different steps involved and the importance of proper care and hygiene. They also learned how to prepare and set up a massage bed, paying attention to presentation, comfort and getting the space ready for a client.

It is impressive to see how quickly they are picking up these new skills and how interested they are in every demonstration.

Their enthusiasm continues to make every session worthwhile.

💅🏽☀️Day 9 of our Summer Skills Program and we are onto a new week!

This week, our amazing participants have moved into Hairdressing & Beauty Cosmetology, starting with manicure and nail care. They were introduced to a full manicure treatment, learning about nail shaping, cuticle care and polish application, with the opportunity to watch, learn and practise some of the techniques themselves.

They also spent time watching our current students during their makeup practicals, and it was lovely to see how curious and interested they were in the process.

A new department, new experiences and another set of skills for them to explore.

☀️Day 8 of our Summer Skills Program and what a way to wrap up Catering & Home Management Week!

Our amazing participants were introduced to pastry and before long, the kitchen was busy with doughnuts, cookies and cakes. After a week of learning their way around the kitchen, it was great to see how much more confident and comfortable they had become.

We also had the pleasure of welcoming Hussain Dada, an exemplary artist who shared his story with the participants and spoke to them about his journey, passion and experiences. His words were a reminder that every journey starts somewhere, and that staying committed to what you love matters.

As we close this chapter, a well-deserved thank you goes to Chef Awa Faal, Chef Ousman Bayo and Chef Saikou Fofana for their patience, commitment and the effort they put into making the week worthwhile for them.

☀️Day 7 of our Summer Skills Program was a beautiful mix of practical learning, reading and creativity.

Our amazing participants continued with Food & Beverage, learning the basics of table setting and preparing fresh juice. It was good to see them paying attention to the little details and understanding that presentation and service are also an important part of the experience.

We were pleased to welcome Emily Joof, Founder of M'Bife, who joined us for a special Art & Story Hour. Emily read from books she has published and spent time talking, creating and engaging with the children around the stories.

A full day of learning in different forms and one we hope they will remember.

☀️Day 6 of our Summer Skills Program was all about exploring Food & Beverage through practice.

Our brilliant participants prepared their own smoothies and were also introduced to the basics of food plating and presentation. From measuring and blending to decorating and plating, everyone had the opportunity to get involved.

Nothing beats the excitement of making something yourself and being proud of the results.
