On Sunday, the Honourable Sports Ministers joined us at Supdeco Banjul Campus for the official jersey distribution ceremony ahead of the Inter-Tertiary Football Tournament 2026. The participating institutions are Supdeco Banjul Campus, American International University West Africa (AIUWA), International Open University (IOU), Hadigala International College, University of The Gambia (UTG), University of Education (UEG), Civil Service University (CSU), and the University of Applied Sciences, Engineering and Technology (USET).
We are sincerely grateful to Africell for donating the jerseys, to the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) for providing the equipment, and to Lamin K. Saidy Lamin K Saidy Sr. for the trophy. Their generous support has played a major role in making this tournament a reality.
The tournament will officially kick off on 6th June 2026, and we warmly encourage all students to come out, support their teams, and be part of this historic sporting initiative.

The Students’ Union delegation led by the Minister for Education and Research, Honorable Ebrima Sinyang, successfully paid a fruitful courtesy visit to Alliance Française of Banjul and held constructive engagements with Marion Ray-Essien to explore potential areas of collaboration through a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The proposed partnership seeks to strengthen students’ French language proficiency, promote intercultural exchange and broaden diverse cultural understanding between Francophone and Anglophone communities. The initiative is envisioned to create meaningful opportunities for academic advancement, educational programmes, leadership development and social engagement for students.
On behalf of the Students’ Union, the Honourable Minister expressed profound appreciation to the Managing Director of Alliance Française for the warm reception, hospitality, and productive discussions, while also extending an official invitation for her participation in the Union’s forthcoming programmes and activities.

Today, the Students’ Union delegation led by Hon. Ebrima Sinyang, Minister for Education and Research, held a fruitful courtesy meeting with Her Excellency Violeta Insa Sandoval, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Spain in The Gambia. The engagement centered on prospective collaboration in student exchange initiatives, cultural and educational programmes, Spanish language programmes and leadership training opportunities for our Students.
On behalf of the Students’ Union, the Minister expressed profound gratitude to Her Excellency for her warm reception, commitment to youth empowerment and willingness to strengthen academic and intercultural cooperation. He further extended an official invitation to the forthcoming Inter-Tertiary Football Tournament and Students’ Week celebrations.

Mental Health Talk Alert
Balancing Mind, Life & Learning – A Conversation for University Students will take place on Tuesday, 19th May 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Supdeco Banjul campus School Grounds.
The session will feature Dr. Pa Amadou Sohna, a Gambian medical doctor, healthcare leader, and community advocate with over 10 years of experience in clinical and surgical practice. He is the founder of The Healing Bantaba and is passionate about mental health, men’s health, and youth development.
This will be an important and insightful conversation focused on mental well-being, personal growth, and the challenges students face in balancing academic life with everyday responsibilities.

The SUPDECO Students’ Union proudly congratulates SUPDECO for its outstanding participation in the Inter-Tertiary Debate Championship (ITDC) Grand Finale – Second Edition 2026, organized by the University of The Gambia Debate Association under the theme:
“THE BALLOT, THE VOICE: THE ROLE OF YOUNG PEOPLE IN ENSURING A DEMOCRATIC AND PEACEFUL ELECTORAL PROCESS.”
Following weeks of competitive and intellectually engaging rounds, SUPDECO successfully advanced to the Grand Finale and secured an impressive 4th Position among participating tertiary institutions. 🎉👏🏾
The championship provided a vital platform for young people to discuss and highlight the importance of democracy, peaceful elections, civic responsibility, and youth participation in national development. Through dedication, teamwork, confidence, and critical thinking, SUPDECO proudly represented the institution throughout the competition.
Securing a place among the top finalists in such a prestigious championship reflects commitment, resilience, and academic excellence. This achievement remains a proud moment for the entire SUPDECO community and further demonstrates the growing contribution of young people in shaping democratic conversations and peaceful electoral processes.
The SUPDECO Students’ Union also extends appreciation to the University of The Gambia Debate Association for successfully organizing and hosting the second edition of the championship and creating a platform that continues to promote intellectual engagement and youth empowerment among tertiary institutions.
