CRPD SUMMER XAM XAM FELLOWSHIP | COMPLETED 🎓📚

Yesterday marked the successful completion of the CRPD Summer Xam Xam Fellowship, a five-day intensive research training programme that brought together 15 SUPDECO students from both the International Relations (IR) and BBA departments. The fellowship provided an engaging and practical learning experience, taking participants from the basics of research to more advanced research applications.

Across the five days, fellows explored research foundations and problem formulation, research philosophy and approaches, literature review, research questions and objectives, research design, methodology and sampling, data collection, research ethics, research instruments, data management and analysis, research writing, policy analysis, and evidence-based recommendations. Participants also worked on developing research proposals and applying the knowledge gained through practical research exercises.

The training was facilitated by Biran G*i, Lead – Democratic Governance, and Mariama Davies, Data Manager, whose expertise, guidance and commitment made the fellowship both intensive and impactful. Their practical approach helped fellows better understand not only how to conduct research, but also how to generate credible evidence and translate research into meaningful findings and policy recommendations.

The Centre for Research and Policy Development (CRPD) truly did justice to this fellowship, and we sincerely appreciate the entire team for creating such a valuable learning experience. Special appreciation goes to our two facilitators for their dedication throughout the five days. Congratulations to all 15 SUPDECO fellows on successfully completing this important research journey! 🎓👏🏽 Center for Research and Policy Development -CRPD

🏆 THE FINAL CHAPTER | UTG MAKE HISTORY

And now, the whistle has sounded for the final time.

The maiden edition of the Inter-Tertiary Football Tournament has come to an end but what a journey it has been. A journey of ambition, rivalry, resilience, unity, and belief. From the opening match to the final moment at Manjai Park, this tournament gave tertiary institutions across The Gambia a platform to compete, connect, and create history.

In a dramatic final that had everything intensity, courage, and emotion the University of The Gambia emerged victorious after a 1–1 draw in regulation time and a tense penalty shootout. With composure under immense pressure, UTG became the inaugural champions of the Inter-Tertiary Football Tournament.

History now has its first name written in gold: UTG.

SUPDECO Students’ Union Engages in National Research and Innovation Workshop

On behalf of the SUPDECO Students’ Union, the President attended Day Three of the National Research and Innovation Fund (NRIF) Capacity Strengthening Workshop, organized by the National Research and Innovation Fund in partnership with the African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS), with support from the Science Granting Councils Initiative (SGCI).

The workshop brought together representatives from universities, government institutions, research organizations, innovation hubs, civil society, development partners, and the private sector. It provided a platform for participants to exchange knowledge, share experiences, and explore ways to strengthen The Gambia’s research and innovation ecosystem.

The sessions focused on key areas including effective grant management, strategic partnerships, research communication, knowledge management, and research translation. Facilitators and experts from The Gambia and Kenya shared practical experiences on aligning research with national development priorities, managing research grants effectively, and ensuring that research findings translate into meaningful contributions to policymaking, innovation, and community development.

Participants were also introduced to the NRIF Knowledge Repository, a national platform designed to document, preserve, and share research and innovation outputs with policymakers, researchers, students, and the wider public. Discussions emphasized the importance of making research more accessible and transforming academic knowledge into practical solutions that respond to societal challenges.

Another important area highlighted during the workshop was the Student Loan Scheme. Participants were encouraged to sensitize eligible students about the scheme and ensure that applications are submitted before the official deadline. The SUPDECO Students’ Union will continue to disseminate this information and encourage eligible students to take advantage of this opportunity.

Overall, the workshop provided a valuable learning, knowledge-sharing, and networking experience. It strengthened connections with researchers, institutions, and experts from The Gambia and Kenya while highlighting the importance of research, innovation, collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and evidence-based decision-making in national development.

The President remains committed to sharing the knowledge and insights gained from the workshop with SUPDECO students and encouraging greater student participation in research, innovation, and other development-oriented initiatives.
