It has come to our attention that the Alkamba times has published a report regarding Dr Baboucarr Cham who is the principal of Sami Institute Of Nursing And Health Sciences and also a member of the Gamlex examination body for possible conflict of interest in the coming examination. Hence we want to inform the general public that Dr cham has resigned from his position even though he was selected by the council and by virtue of his position as the president of the nurses association of the Gambia.
Whilst we welcome Dr chams resignation we want to inform the public that Sami Institute was built on principles which we will never compromise. Our processes from recruitment to exams is free from interference as we have been rejecting lot of people who are not qualified as they don't have the required results to join.We want to train qualified nurses as they will become our ambassadors.
Our two badges have sat to their final exams under the supervision of external examiners just to make sure that we do things right.
In conclusion, we want to assure the general public that our students are fully prepared for this exam even though this is going to be our first time in the league. This is because we have well trained and certified Naqaa licensed lecturers and besides who have been in the teaching field for quiet a long time.

Dr. Babucarr Cham is more than just a nurse educator and leader he is a man whose life’s work has been dedicated to lifting others up. For decades, he has trained, mentored, and inspired countless nurses and midwives across The Gambia, always insisting that integrity and fairness must guide the profession.
Those who know him describe him as principled, humble, and deeply committed to the future of healthcare. His decision to resign from the GaNLEX examinations board was not forced upon him it was a choice he made to protect his good name and to ensure that no shadow of doubt could fall on the licensing process. That is the mark of a leader who values trust above titles.
Dr. Cham’s contributions go beyond classrooms and council meetings. His research on cervical cancer screening, midwifery practices, and public health challenges reflects his belief that knowledge should serve the people. And his leadership at the Sami Institute of Nursing and Health Sciences shows his vision for building strong institutions that will outlast him.
To question his integrity is to ignore the record of a man who has consistently put principle before personal gain. The nursing and midwifery community stands with him, not only because of his achievements, but because of the example he sets: that honesty, fairness, and service are the true foundations of healthcare.
We call on those spreading misinformation to correct the record and offer a public apology. Dr. Cham deserves respect, and The Gambia deserves leaders whose reputations are protected, not tarnished by baseless claims.
