What is the Montessori method?

The Montessori system is an educational approach developed by Dr. Maria Montessori (1870-1952) that emphasizes independence, hands-on learning, and respect for a child’s natural development. It encourages children to learn through exploration and discovery at their own pace in a structured environment.

The Montessori Learning Environment

All the materials in a Montessori classroom have been specially designed to support specific learning objectives, fostering independence, and concentration.

The method fosters rigorous, self-motivated growth for children in all areas of their development—cognitive, emotional, social, and physical. Teachers, known as guides, facilitate learning by observing each child and providing individualised support rather than leading the entire class in one activity.
