The mango: some time ago, people in the Northern Region were advised to take to establishing mango plantations. From educational talks many young people accepted the challenge. They even went beyond reason by cutting down the native economic trees like dawadawa and shea trees. A few of us were skeptical and just collected a grafted seedling.
After about three to four years my mango tree fruited big ones.I was happy. The next two seasons the fruiting was about doubled. However, the next fruiting exposed worms in all the fruits.I sought the advice of my agric friends.,and their advice was that I should cut down all the branches with leaves.I did that.In two years the tree was still the same with worms.I cut down again. Two years again the tree fruited only two mangoes.I plugged one and kept it for about three days to see how it would behave. When I brought it out it was rotten.I visited my colleagues who also planted in their compounds, they are telling me the same story.
I don't know what is happening to those who have large plantations of similar mangoes.

DAGBANLI films
These days hardly a day passes without one hearing a film being advertised on fm radios in the Northern Region. The patronage is great,The film industry is creating jobs for the youth:actors and actresses, producers and camera men and women-all seem to be earning something.I however don't know how much.
How can we advance this industry since a lot of the good actors and actresses cannot read and write Dagbanli? Some of the films contain very good stories that need to be written down if possible for schools.
Popular actors and actresses need to be trained further beyond having the talent. Some of them are both actors and musicians eg Umaru Janda.,and others.Business men and women should invest in the Dagbanli films.
TV media should consider showing the films. The audience is large
School children and holidays in Tamale:Parents, teachers,Assembly members, unit committee members ,chiefs, religiouse leaders and GES officials, children take more than two days for every holiday. Most children take a few days before the actual holiday, and come back to school days after the holiday is over. This is a serious matter. It is more serious when the holiday has feasting in it.This covers children from basic to senior high schools. Most actors in the education drama in Tamale have no ideas about the contents of the syllabi.Parents parts of the PTAS need to have orientation on BECE and WASSCE syllabi.I don't know whether the WAEC should organise that or GES.The Tamale Metro Assembly should take interest in this
Have we abandoned the workshop components of the JHS? Classrooms are built and commissioned everyday but we don't hear of workshops equipped with machines and tools for tailors, carpenters, electricals ect. GES, this is the time we need the workshops for jhs.Now that we are an oil and gas producing country. The book long is too much in the schools.
MP's common fund:I head a former NALAG President complaining about the MPs having common fund.He doesn't think it is necessary for MPs to have common fund when the laws make them members of the District Assembly.
It seems he has a case.During the last few months when some parties had their primary elections many mps countered projects they constructed. It looked as if their district Assemblies did nothing at all with the district Assembly common fund. Some mps did not mention even one project in their campaigns. Is it that they did not receive common fund.
I suggest that the parliament should find another avenue for mps to get money to do their campaigns. The district Assemblies are non partsan and we should not bring partsan activities in them. The mps are partsan products, that is why they are non votting members of the Assemblies.
The technology that engaged my attention throughout the AFCON2012 is the determination of the lengh between the goalposts and the spot where balls are kicked when a player is fouled.Iam sure this is done by the tv technicians. It is always corrected to a whole number and in metres.
I appeal to scientists, especially Ghanaians ,to explain this to me.Please Iam a pure arts students. The explanation should be at my level. Thank you in advance

SHEA BOD: When the Vice President was coming to Tamale in connection with the sheanut industry the sheanut farmers were full of smiles. At long last they were going to have their own Board. But that didn't happen.Instead,a committee was inaugurated and further pushed them away from their board.
Since they didn't get what they wanted may I make the following suggestions:-
The sheanut industry be put under SADA.SADA should take full responsiblity for the developmentof the following:
1. Sheanuts.-the development of the fruit aspect into fruit juice
-the development of the kernel which contains the sheabutter whose
uses we already know.
-the development of the residue into medicines.[the residue known as
"kpambrugu" in Dagbanli is used by local doctors to treat some ailments
-the development of the hardshell to something.
2.Dawadaw -in 1984, I lodged in a hotel in Bolgatanga, and I was served with with "dozim" jam. This jam was not different from other jams
in the country. It was made from the yellow fruit of dawadawa
-The nut from dawadawa is a spice that fights BP EFFECTIVELY
These two trees in the North are real economic trees and should not be toyed with.Communities went to wars in the past because of these two trees.
I therefore advise that the suggestions given be looked at critically.UDS should take actions on their research findings on these two trees. If they haven't done research on them then they should start immediately.
Mr.Vice President, advise your boss,Mr.President,to put "SHEABOD" under SADA,and UDS,to give the sheanut farmers and the people of Ghana economic power.
Tamale is surrounded by an agricultural economy.Any other economy that comes follows behind agriculture.I intend to devote this page largely to agriculture.I will like my friends and contacts from all corners of the world to share their knowledge in agriculture. My fight is on what to do with the fresh rain water that goes away from farming areas arround Tamale. There is potential irrigation area near Tamale,in an area called Pagazaa.Contact with the Tamale Metro Assembly, particularly Tamale North Sub-Metro Council, will make things clearer.I invite investers to contact Tamale Metro for more information on Pagaza Irrigation programme.
