STATEMENT FROM THE CHIEF FIRE OFFICER TO ALL FIRE FIGHTERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY IN COMMEMORATION OF INTERNATIONAL FIRE FIGHTERS DAY
With joy and excitement I bring you greetings from the Command of the Ghana National Fire Service Headquarters, Accra. Every 4th May of the year reminds the world of the bravery and sacrifices made by a special group of professionals known as Firefighters. It is to this group that we fondly and proudly belong.
As we join Firefighters worldwide to commemorate this very important day on our calendar, I wish to congratulate all the gallant men and women of the Ghana National Fire Services for their hard work and dedication to duty. We have a calling; a calling to save lives and protect property; a calling we have resolved to heed even at the peril of our lives and it is a call that we all have responded to admirably and creditably over the years.
Comrades, I wish to express my sincere appreciation to all personnel for your support and contributions to the command, the Fire Service and the nation as a whole.
The first quarter of 2021 has been a fair period as we have seen less incidences of fire outbreaks compared to the same period of the immediate past year. This feet can only be attributed to your hard work especially that of our fire education teams across the length and breadth of this country. This is not to forget the difficult and dangerous fire situations our firefighters had to deal with, with excellent tact and dexterity. Special mention can be made of victims of the GHUMCO explosion in Takoradi who are still recovering from their injuries four years on.
This is definitely the tangent on which the world seeks to go as far as undesirable fires and its management is concerned. Fire prevention is the first on the agenda when it comes to fire management. I therefore encourage all personnel to carry on with your good and hard work so as to achieve the ultimate aim of a fire free nation.
Fellow firefighters, management is well aware of the numerous challenges confronting you as personnel of this noble Service in terms of equipment and general personnel welfare. I wish to assure you that, efforts are being made at all levels to deal with these challenges in order for you to discharge your duties in the manner that is expected of you.
Gallant firefighters, unfortunately, we lost a number of our comrades to the icy hands of death in the past years. A special mention can be made of DO Seddor, GO Hannah Yawson and Newton. I wish to extend my condolences to their Regional, Municipal and District Commands as well as their families. They have contributed their quota to service to humanity and may their souls rest in perfect peace.
Fellow fighters, at this juncture, I admonish you to remain resolute and courageous in the discharge of your duties and work diligently towards the achievement of the mandate of the Fire Service and in the service of mankind.
On behalf of the Command of the Ghana National Fire Service and in the spirit of comradeship I congratulate you and wish you a happy International Fire Fighters day.
