GOVERNANCE IN AFRICA MEANS; MEETINGS UPON MEETINGS

Governance, is the action or manner of governing a state, ie mobilizing, organizing and utilizing the state’s limited resources to the benefit of EVERY Citizen. This is the pure definition of governance. In our part of the world, Governance is all about meetings upon meetings. People who are given public offices to manage, spend all the time having meetings. Institutions that have to be on the fields collecting, handling and utilizing data to the benefit of the citizenry are busily going from one meeting to the other. Isn’t it amazing how the people we vote for suddenly turn to be busy all round once they are elected? Their best word to scare their followers from calling them is “I’m in a meeting” in a silent voice 😅😅😅. It’s amazing that, in Africa, when a family member is appointed into any public office, instead of the person having some days out to closely think of ideas to better the place he’s being assigned, they rather hold parties to celebrate the appointment. If it’s not about “chopping the money” why will they Celebrate in grand parties?

We only hope for the best.

The president might or might not be right, I have no authority to judge that but the question is: When it’s time for an ordinary civil servant to retire, does he or she call it corruption when given a letter of instruction to go home? It’s a question this time not my opinion. 🤔🤔

POLITICIANS, THE WOES OF AFRICA

Poverty in Africa has kept the continent in the dark far too long. The citizens are trying hard to change the narrative but people who control the system have had their way out all the time to direct the system in their favor.

In Africa, a politician would be happy to have all his constituents poor so that they can hail him on his visits. They prefer to have all their children benefiting from scholarships and government aided programs so that their families continue to be on top than to have his constituents or ordinary citizens benefit those opportunities. The entire economy of Africa has widened the gab between the poor and the rich for which reason we have smaller number of rich people but so many poor people. Oh Africa, when will we think and realize that it isn’t the case that the other part of the world has more resources than us but that, they have refused to be politically self centered, greedy and family centered. They’ve widened their economy such that the poor are even closer to the rich. Until the politician who is the controller of the economy sits down and rethink about these and have a conscious change of mentality and selfishness we will wrongfully accuse lack of or inadequate resources as the cause of our problems.

Development in Africa is solely the responsibility of our governments. Since independence of most African Countries, past and present governments have made so much efforts to develop Africa in terms of infrastructure and institutions. Our efforts have however not been enough to change the story of the African. For instance, after more than 50yrs of independence gained by most African Countries we are still building unit classrooms and one lane roads that link our major regions. Without the “hand-push” of a highly influential politician one cannot get into our security institutions or any high profiled institution. Almost all workers in our high institutions owe allegiance to governments of the day but we claim to be building formidable institutions that will stand the test of time to meet our developmental needs. We claim that the infrastructure and institutions we are building today can accommodate our future population but the question is; if we claim we have limited resources for which reason we still build unit classrooms with chalkboards and olden materials for teaching and learning, build chips compounds that have no capacity to treat serious health cases can we then get the resources in future to pull down all those small and olden types of infrastructure and rebuild modern ones that will meet standards? Isn’t it better we use today’s limited resources to build the less number of dual roads we can, build the best hospitals we can and the modern schools so that we just need to be adding up but not reconstructing all the time?

Rome was not built in a day but it was planned far back. We fail to meet the needs of our growing population because our governments have almost always failed to plan for our future population instead we manage the situation all the time. 🤔🤔
