A First year HND fashion student of the Ho Polytechnic has been shot dead by unknown assailants.
The young lady identified as Naomi Kpodzro and believed to be in her twenties was found dead by her colleagues Monday morning
with gun and knife wounds at a private hostel called Divine Star where she was lodging.

No Reason For Attack yet. The reason behind the attack was not readily known as the police have just started
investigations however he colleagues suspect a lover may have a hand in her death.

The Volta Regional Police Commander, DCOP Peterkin Yentumi Gyinae told Graphic Online that the police was not ruling out a robbery attack. He said preliminary information points to the fact that the lady may have been wrongly attacked by the assailants. The body has since been deposited at the Volta regional hospital morgue.

News reaching us reveal that a first year Science and Industrial Lab student of Kumasi Polytechnic, Thomas Agyepong last Tuesday was shot in a suspected armed robbery attack.

According to student reports, the robbery incident took place in the compound where the deceased lived around KNUST junction, Kumasi.

The incident is currently been investigated by the police, and perpetrators will be brought to book.

The Kumasi Polytechnic has organised a matriculation ceremony for Freshmen of the 2015/2016 academic year. This year's matriculation ceremony was held on the 21st of November 2015 at the sports complex of the school.

The program officially began with a procession of Rector, Convocation, and Core Executive of SRC which was led by the school choir. Rev. Fr. Kingsley Osei Boahene said the opening prayer to commence the ceremony, after which a congregational song ''Nyame Mma'' was sang.
The acting Registrar of the Polytechnic Council, then followed with the Administration of matriculation oath to new students in groups by Faculties as follows:

1. Faculty of Health Sciences
2. Faculty of Applied Sciences
3. Faculty of Engineering
4. Faculty of Built and Natural Environment
5.Faculty of Creative Art and Technology
6. Institute of Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development
7. Faculty of Business and Management studies
8. Institute of Distance and Continuing Education

After the matriculation oath, The Rector of the polytechnic Prof. Nsowah-Nuamah delivered his speech. Addressing the congregation, Prof. Nsowah-Nuamah warmly welcomed freshmen to the school and said that, the matriculation ceremony organized for freshmen every year officially ushers the new students into the polytechnic community.

He stated that, ''5,941 students were admitted for the 2015/2016 academic year, out of which 3,941 are males and 1,900 are females''. Continuing with His speech, Prof. Nsowah-Nuamah indicated that, the freshmen were fortunate to be admitted in the Best Polytechnic institution in Ghana and also, the 6th tertiary institution out of 157 tertiary institutions here in Ghana.

He urged the students to take their academic works seriously and also, desist from any activities that frown on the the constitution of the school. Bringing His speech to an end, Prof.Nsowah-Nuamah stressed on the fact that, the school board will not hesistate to sanction any student who goes contrary to the constitution of the school. He then dissolved the assembly.

KUMASI POLYTECHNIC__SECOND PLACE RUNNER UP IN THE IDEAL TERTIARY COOKING CHALLENGE.

Nestlé Ghana through its Ideal Milk brand has organised a cooking challenge for Home Economics students from nine Polytechnics in Ghana. The event was dubbed ‘Idealicious Cooking Challenge’ and took place on the 7th November 2015 at the West Hills Mall in Weija. Nestlé, a world leader in Nutrition, Health and Wellness, is committed to producing safe and high-quality products that ensure nutrition any time of the day, anywhere.

The cooking event was organised to promote creativity and allow students to demonstrate their cooking abilities, by using evaporated milk beyond its traditional use in tea and porridge. This event is part of a broader campaign introduced earlier this year to create awareness about the varied ways evaporated milks can be used. As part of the ‘Idealicious Cooking Challenge’, the participants prepared a main meal and dessert using their own recipes, to unearth their cooking talents and showcase how Ideal Milk can be used in a variety of dishes.

The winning team from Bolgatanga Polytechnic was awarded GHS 3,000, for their recipes Idealicious Zomkom - a millet and flour drink cooked in Ideal milk with local spices, Idealicious KunKunlepgere - a one pot dish of guinea fowl sauce prepared with Ideal milk and millet, and Idealicious Yellow Melon Dessert – a steamed pudding made of chopped yellow melons mixed with beaten eggs, honey and Ideal milk. The second place runners up, Kumasi Polytechnic, were awarded GHS 2,000 and the third place runners up, Tamale Polytechnic, also received GHS 1,000. All participants were awarded a certificate of participation and a hamper of Nestlé products.

Speaking about their experience of the event, the winners Ajene Baba Frank and Saratu Dramani expressed their appreciation to Nestlé for organising the event and for creating a platform for them to showcase their creativity in the culinary art. The eighteen participants from nine Polytechnics were assessed by a panel of three judges, a seasoned Chef; Chef Henry Duah from Le-Must, Audrey Akyeampong who is the Greater Accra Regional Chairperson of the Ghana Home Economics Association, and the popular character Grandma from the

Ideal Recipes television advert. The students were judged based on the criteria of taste, presentation, creativity and neatness.
The popular actress Naa Ashorkor ensured an exciting and engaging experience for participants and on-lookers alike. Thanks to the ‘Idealicious Cooking Challenge’, the participants and those present at the event discovered that the rich and creamy taste, as well as the nutritional value, of Ideal Milk is not only great for breakfast, but also for a wide variety of local dishes.

If you want to pass your exams and be a doctor, but you spend your time watching telenovelas, then I guess you know what destiny you will achieve. If you want your business to expand and open branches across the country, and you’re spending your profit on cars, then you know what destiny you’re working towards, don’t you? The same principle applies to our nation. We are a developing country with limited resources.
Let’s ask ourselves: what do we spend our money on? Which of our citizens do we pay the highest salaries to? Which sectors do we spend our scarce resources on first?

If we’re buying V8s while children go to school under trees, if we’re paying politicians on time while our teachers go for several months without a salary, if we’re paying members of parliament ex gratia while poor citizens, after contributing to national health insurance, still have to pay for healthcare, then we know what destiny we’re working towards, don’t we?
