Yaw Tenkorang Afuni

" A Journey to Remember"

I just embarked on a project to appreciate Teachers and affect Teaching and Learning.

This project has served as a call to conscience for me.

I feel I have done very little with the intelligence providence bestowed, the Knowledge Schooling provided and wisdom experience brought.

The Nation Ghana has served us right but we wrong it in so many ways. We fool ourselves in cities and towns believing a false tale of our country.

We operate on hollow values and cheap religion while the vast expanse of our beloved country is in complete ruins.

As I descended the mountains from Kwahu Abetifi and entered Abene, Hwehwee and Yaw Tenkorang, I just could not lift my head up to see what we pride ourselves in.

Just a few kilometres from major towns and you are welcomed into villages whose settings are real definition of anachronism. Are we in the same time and era?

Beautiful land Scape, breathe taking topography, yet it seems the inhabitants are condemned slaves in their own land.

The school environment and buildings are pathetic. The roads that lead there are shameful.

The only hope are the children you meet. Beaming with joy and caring less about the everlasting doom our generation is bequeathing to them.

In these towns , Hamlets and Villages you still find Teachers , where no other professional is found. A single school serving the entire community. The only source of light for the kids are these forgotten Teachers who mint gold from iron and squeeze water from rocks.

I have found the truth and it's setting me free. Right there in these places I see hope I see a future, I see myself.

Welcome to Presby Basic School Yaw Tenkorang.

Thank you my Teacher

Welcome to Kotoso

I was at Kotoso D/A Basic school yesterday to visit one of the nominees for the Teachers'Excellence Awards. The experience was indelible.

Kotoso is a town just by the Afram River. The scenery of the town from a high elevation is breathtaking and spiritual. Kotoso is situated on a low laying plain, as part of the banks of River Afram, as you descend the steep slopes while approaching the town, you realise you are entering a potential paradise.

On your way there, you also see the back view of the famous isolated rock, the pride of Kwahu Tafo, Buruku. It stands majestically, stubbornly telling the story of resistance of the brute force of nature and evolution.

Finally I entered Kotoso.Upon entering the classroom , I saw these bubbles of joy. In spite of the learning environment, the pupils are hearty kids and cared less about petty cares and our otiose catechisms.

They are just living.

I enjoyed every bit of the engagement and wished I could do more to enhance the learning experience.

I thanked the the young Teacher for deciding to expend his youthful energy in such a noble way. To stay in Kotoso and teach Primary 3 school pupils at the prime of his youth. Amazing decision.

Mr. Isaac Ofosu you are a hero. I will surely come again. It was worth it

Thank you for welcoming me into your class it was such an honour.
