*Courtesy Call | Korea KOICA Project Volunteer Program – 4th Batch*
The fourth batch of the Korea KOICA Project Volunteer Program for ICT in Education this morning paid a courtesy call on the Regional Director of Education, Dr. Mrs. Ivy Asantewa Owusu, at her office.
The visit was aimed at introducing the team and fostering familiarization ahead of their work in the region. The Regional Director was joined by the Regional HR Officer, Ms. Ellen Sarquah, and Regional Planning Officer, Mr. Felix Koranteng, who gave the team a warm welcome.
The delegation was accompanied by the Municipal Director of Education (New Juaben South), Mr. Mustapha Haruna Appiah, alongside officers Mr. Aikins (HR), Mrs. Joana (DD Sup), and Madam Matilda (PRO).
The KOICA volunteer team's initiative focuses on enhancing ICT education through collaboration and technological advancement — including the establishment of ICT Labs in 16 selected schools across both New Juaben North and South Municipals.
Previous batches have already made tremendous strides — from constructing and renovating ICT Labs, to building teacher capacity and improving school environments and local awareness of ICT education.
Dr. Ivy assured the team of the Directorate's continuous support and full cooperation throughout their stay. 🙌

2026 BECE Monitoring – Eastern Region |📚✏️ 4th – 8th May 2026
The Eastern Regional Education Monitoring Team, led by the Regional Director of Education, Dr. Mrs. Ivy Asantewa Owusu, successfully completed a five-day monitoring exercise of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) across the Eastern Region.
Over the course of five days, the team fanned out across multiple Municipal/Districts including Birim South, Achiase, Akyemansa, Birim Central, Abuakwa North, New Juaben North & South, Kwahu West, Birim North, Yilo Krobo, Akuapem South, Nsawam Adoagyire and the Kwahu Afram Plains, ensuring the examinations were conducted with the highest level of integrity.
A major highlight of the exercise was the visit by the Deputy Minister of Education, Hon. Dr. Clement Apaak, on Day 4, who joined the Regional Director at Aburi Girls SHS and commended the region for recording zero malpractice throughout the examinations. He congratulated all candidates on behalf of the Minister of Education and the President of Ghana.🇬🇭
The monitoring exercise also had an inclusive dimension, with the Regional Special Education Coordinator, Mr. Azumah Kennedy, observing a candidate with low vision writing the exams in the Kwahu Afram Plains and Koforidua School for the Deaf candidates — a proud demonstration of the region's commitment to inclusive education. 💙
By Friday, 8th May, the greater majority of candidates had successfully completed their papers, with joyful scenes of smiling and excited candidates emerging from examination halls. 😊🎉
The final chapter of the 2026 BECE in the Eastern Region will see 534 candidates across 14 Municipal/Districts sit for the Arabic papers today, Monday, 11th May 2026.

🏆⚽ EASTERN REGION ARE NATIONAL CHAMPIONS! ⚽🏆
Nkawkaw Salvation Army Primary School has made the Eastern Region proud by winning the 2026 MILO Under-13 Soccer Tournament held in Takoradi!
In a dominant final on Saturday, 25th April 2026, they defeated Kwabenya Atomic M/A Basic School (Greater Accra Region) 2-0 to clinch the national title. To crown it all, players from the school swept all individual awards — Best Player, Best Goalkeeper, and Top Goal Scorer of the entire tournament! 🌟
On Monday, 27th April, the champions — led by Kwahu West Municipal Director of Education, Mr. George Yankyera, Eastern Regional PE Coordinator, Mr. Effah Isaac Tetteh and Regional Manager of Salvation Army Educational Unit, Mr. Samuel Gyimah Abaidoo — presented the trophy to the Eastern Regional Director of Education, Dr Mrs. Ivy Asantewa Owusu, who praised all players, coaches and teachers involved. The team also visited the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council (ERCC), where Chief Director Mr. Ebenezer Amoah received them and encouraged the young stars to bring the same winning spirit to their academics.

Manya Krobo Senior High School Celebrates Gold at the
CAF African Schools Football Championship (U-15)
Manya Krobo Senior High School (MAKROSEC) is bursting with pride as four of its outstanding students return home as Gold Medal winners at the CAF African Schools Football Championship (U-15), held in Zimbabwe.
Out of just 23 students selected from across all Senior High Schools in Ghana to represent the nation at this prestigious continental tournament, Manya Krobo SHS contributed an impressive four players — a remarkable feat that speaks volumes about the school's footballing talent and culture of excellence.
Even more remarkable is the fact that Christiana Ashiaku, the team's General Captain, hails from MAKROSEC — and she didn't just lead the team to glory, she was also crowned the Best Player of the Tournament. Her vice, Kpentey Belinda, who served as Assistant Captain, is equally a proud daughter of MAKROSEC.
The four representatives — Christiana Ashiaku, Janet Zikpi, Blessed Tettey, and Kpentey Belinda — wore their jerseys with distinction, giving everything on the pitch for school and nation.
As the banner back home boldly reads: "Your hard work, discipline and passion brought glory to our school and our nation as a whole."

Tullow Oil Ghana Commissions Boys' Dormitory At Yilo Krobo Senior High School, Somanya
Somanya, Eastern Ghana, September 10, 2025 – Yilo Krobo Senior High School (YIKROSEC) celebrated the commissioning of a new seven-unit boys’ dormitory, "Tullow City," funded by Tullow Oil Ghana. This facility aims to enhance the living and learning environment for students, addressing the need for better accommodation.
The project, which was jointly commissioned by Honourable Albert Tetteh Nyakotey, Member of Parliament for Yilo Krobo and Mr Jean-Medard Madama, the Country Director of Tullow Oil Ghana was initiated in August 2024 and includes a two-bedroom staff bungalow, a common room, an ironing room, a secure storage box room, and a mechanised borehole for water supply.
The commissioning ceremony welcomed dignitaries, including Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, the Eastern Regional Minister, and other notable officials, highlighting the collaborative effort behind the initiative.
With a capacity for 300 students, the dormitory is expected to reduce overcrowding and attract qualified educators. The common room will foster community and engagement among students.
Mrs. Awatey praised Mr Eric Tetteh and Dr Osei Yaw Adutwum, the former Minister of Education for their contributions, emphasising the project's collaborative spirit. This investment in YIKROSEC signifies a commitment to improving education in the region and showcases the impact of partnerships in driving positive change for future generations.
