Postgraduate Research Update Presentation

On the 28th January, 2026, the Department of Meteorology and Climate Science-KNUST successfully held its first Postgraduate Research Update Presentation.

The session provided a vibrant platform for postgraduate students to share progress on their research, exchange ideas, and engage in meaningful scientific discussions on key weather and climate challenges affecting Ghana and West Africa.

Research presentations spanned diverse and timely themes, including:

• Soil moisture dynamics and vegetation stress across Ghana
• Future projections of major West African climate systems using CMIP6 models
• Sub-seasonal precipitation forecasting using hybrid deep learning approaches
• Aerosol–convection interactions over West Africa
• Agricultural drought assessment using SERDI

The department commends all presenters for their insightful contributions and thanks faculty members, students, and participants for their engagement.

Final Day

Today marks the final day of the African School on Air Quality and Pollution Prevention 2025, and looking back at how far we’ve come is truly inspiring.

What began as a Ghana-focused initiative has steadily grown into a West African program and has now blossomed into a Pan-African platform bringing together passionate learners, researchers, and practitioners from across the continent. From 2023 to 2025, the evolution has been remarkable more countries represented, more voices included, and more collaborations formed.

This journey reflects not just the expansion of a program, but the rise of a community committed to advancing air quality, climate action, and environmental stewardship in Africa.

Today we celebrate the progress made, the knowledge shared, and the collective vision that continues to guide us toward a cleaner and healthier future for all.

We begin the final day of the 2025 African School on Air Quality and Pollution Prevention with group presentations from participants, showcasing their fieldwork, community interactions, and school engagement activities.

From data collection to community education, each group is sharing insights, lessons, and the real-world impact of their outreach efforts. It’s an inspiring start to the day as participants highlight how they applied their knowledge beyond the classroom.

It has been 10 exciting days of learning, fun activities and impact.

Day 9

The ninth day of the African School on Air Quality and Pollution Prevention began with a presentation by Dr. M. K. E. Donkor on clean energy alternatives and renewable technologies.
Dr. Donkor explored practical pathways for transitioning to cleaner energy systems, reducing emissions, and building a more sustainable future for Africa.

The morning continued with an engaging project update from the Air Quality Ambassadors, who shared progress, lessons, and impact from their ongoing initiatives. Their work reflects the power of youth-led action in advancing air quality awareness and solutions across communities.

A strong start to Day 9 filled with innovation, inspiration, and forward-thinking conversations.
