In many communities, the absence of safe and accessible water does not affect everyone equally. Women and girls often bear the greatest burden. They walk long distances to fetch water, sacrifice time meant for education or economic activity, and face health and safety risks in the process. Where water is scarce or unsafe, inequality grows.

Access to clean and reliable water empowers women. It frees time, improves health, supports livelihoods, and opens doors to education and leadership. It allows girls to stay in school and women to participate fully in social and economic life. Water, therefore, is not just an environmental issue it is a gender issue.

As we reflect on this year’s theme, we must recognise that achieving water security is central to achieving equality. Strengthening water governance, protecting our rivers, and ensuring sustainable management are not only technical responsibilities they are moral imperatives.

At Spear Institute LBG, we are committed to advancing research and evidence that inform inclusive and sustainable water solutions. Through data, innovation, and knowledge sharing, we contribute to policies and practices that promote equitable access to water.

Where there is water, there is equality.

🚀 ICESDA 2025: From Craddle to Craddle; Putting ESG and Sustainability First in African's Green Transition Effort.

As promised, Spear Institute is thrilled to share the most insightful excerpts from the 2nd ICESDA Conference 2025!
This year's speakers brought powerful research and perspectives to the fore. Here are some quotes that stood out to us, which will surely inform your strategies and outlook:

On the Foundation of Sustainability
• "It calls on us not only to seek sustainable ends but sustainable beginnings. It demands that ESG and sustainability frameworks be integrated from the inception of our projects, policies, and strategies—not as afterthoughts, but as a foundation. Africa is already demonstrating signs of progress, but the challenge remains vast." — Professor Samuel Kweku Bonsu
Rector, Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA)

• "The ICESDA program is an initiative that tries to fulfill the SDG Goal 17 mandate, which requires partnership in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Everyone present is now a partner with those who want to restore Planet Earth and change the narrative of destruction." — Professor De-Graft Owusu-Manu, Chairman of ICESDA & Professor at KNUST

• "The earth does not send invoices, but one day it will collect interest with compounded consequences. Government was made to be the conscience of capitalism, but when conscience is outsourced, greed becomes policy." — Professor Douglas Boateng, Board Chairperson, Public Procurement Authority (PPA) Ghana & Professor Extraordinaire

🌍 ICESDA 2025🌿

What an inspiring time at the 2nd International Conference on ESG and Sustainable Development of Africa (ICESDA 2025), hosted at GIMPA!

The team had the privilege to attend the maiden edition of the WAGER Summit organized by Pent tv.

📍🌍Excerpts from WAGER 2025
At the West Africa Green Economy Roundtable & Awards (WAGER 2025), leaders and experts reminded us that sustainability goes beyond policies; it is a spiritual mandate, a practical necessity, and a regional responsibility. đź’ˇ
🔹 “To destroy the environment is to dishonour the Creator. To preserve it is to worship Him.” Apostle Alexander Nana Yaw Kumi-Larbi (Chairman Rep. of WAGER 2025)
🔹 “Real change begins with real conversation, and that’s exactly what WAGER is about.” Pastor Dr Felix Dela Klutse (Director, Pent Media Center)
🔹 “West Africa is blessed with natural resources, yet we face rapid urbanisation, industrialisation, and climate change.” Apostle Dr Dieudonne Komla Nuekpe (Executive Counsel Member of The Church of Pentecost)
💡 Key Takeaways:✅ Grow what we eat, and export what we don’t.✅ Build houses that suit our climate — stop copying blindly.✅ Sustainability is not just a goal, but a lifestyle we must embrace.
🌱 Together, we can advance sustainable development through green growth in West Africa. 🌱
