The Accra Golden Lions Club, through its Golden Readers Literacy Initiative, donated 800 books for juveniles and adults to the R.C. Ekem Municipal Library in Winneba to support literacy development and encourage a strong reading culture among young people and community members.

The donation forms part of efforts to inspire students and young readers through engaging literacy activities that promote learning, creativity, confidence, and personal growth.

The initiative is guided by the belief that โ€œReaders today, leaders tomorrow,โ€ emphasizing the important role reading plays in shaping future leaders and empowering the next generation through access to books and knowledge.

The Ghana Library Authority - Central Region continues to welcome partnerships and initiatives that strengthen literacy, lifelong learning, and educational development within communities.

The Ghana Library Authority - Central Region continues to strengthen digital learning at the basic education level through practical ICT sessions across its library network.

At the Kojo Beedu Library, Upper Primary pupils from North Gate School were engaged in a hands-on Microsoft Word practical session, focusing on document creation, formatting, and basic word processing skills.

At the R.C. Ekem Library, Upper Primary pupils from Family Care School participated in a practical Microsoft Excel session, where they were introduced to data entry, simple formulas, and spreadsheet organization.

These sessions are designed to move learners beyond theory into real application, building confidence and competence in essential digital tools.

Over the past three weeks, the Ghana Library Authority - Central Region, through its in-house training initiative, has engaged Senior High School students in a structured Artificial Intelligence (AI) learning series focused on practical skills and academic productivity.

The training progressed from foundational AI concepts to the practical use of ChatGPT, with emphasis on effective application for learning, creativity, and research support.

The sessions aim to strengthen digital literacy and equip young learners with relevant skills for the evolving digital world.

The workshop covered:

Effutu Libraries, in collaboration with the Tourism Society of Ghana (Effutu Branch) and the Effutu Traditional Council, successfully organized this yearโ€™s Aboakyir Quiz Competition.

The initiative was designed to educate learners in Effutu on the rich history of the Effutu State and the significance of the Aboakyir Festival, while fostering cultural awareness, identity, and pride among the youth.

Six schools participated in this engaging and competitive event:

โ€ข Unipra North Basic School
โ€ข Unipra South Inclusive School
โ€ข Presbyterian Basic School
โ€ข Africa Christian Methodist
โ€ข Don Bosco Basic School

After a keenly contested quiz, AME Zion School emerged as the overall winner of the competition.

The event brought together distinguished guests and stakeholders, including Chiefs from the Effutu Traditional Council, the MCE for Effutu Municipal Assembly โ€“ Rev. Atta Mensah, Nana Kwame Appiakubi (Central Regional Director, Ghana Library Authority), officials from the Effutu Municipal Assembly, members of the 2026 Aboakyir Festival Planning Committee, and representatives from the Ghana Education Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana National Fire Service, NCCE, NYA, and other institutions.

The Effutu Municipal Library, on March 16th, 2026, commenced a 5-day Digital Learning Workshop for 18 learners from Bubble International School, Winneba.

The workshop is designed to equip participants with essential digital skills for the modern world, focusing on building a strong foundation in computer use, internet safety, productivity tools, and basic coding.

The workshop will cover:

1. ๐“๐ก๐ž ๐‚๐จ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ ๐’๐ฒ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ฆ (understanding hardware and software components)

2. ๐ˆ๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ง๐ž๐ญ ๐๐š๐ฏ๐ข๐ ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง (online safety, fraud awareness, and scam prevention)

The Effutu Municipal Library had the honour of hosting ๐Œ๐ซ. ๐‘๐ข๐œ๐ก๐š๐ซ๐ ๐‚. ๐„๐ค๐ž๐ฆ and his family at the ๐‘๐ข๐œ๐ก๐š๐ซ๐ ๐‚. ๐„๐ค๐ž๐ฆ ๐Œ๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐œ๐ข๐ฉ๐š๐ฅ ๐‹๐ข๐›๐ซ๐š๐ซ๐ฒ & ๐ˆ๐‚๐“ ๐‚๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ซ๐ž, the facility proudly named in his honour.

During the visit, the Municipal Librarian and her team took Mr. Ekem and his family on a tour of the library, showcasing its state-of-the-art spaces, digital resources, and programs that support reading and learning.

Born on ๐Ÿ๐Ÿth ๐‰๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ—๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ, Mr. Ekem has dedicated his life to education, ceramic arts, and community service. His work has empowered many and contributed significantly to local development.
