Accra, August 8, 2025,

The Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS) joins the entire nation in mourning the tragic loss of our gallant compatriots in the plane crash that occurred on August 6, 2025, near Adansi Sikaman in the Ashanti region. As the days pass and the stories unfold, the painful reality continues to sink in.

This was not a farce or a distant tragedy, but a heart-wrenching occurrence that has touched the soul of our nation.

As we commemorate 68 years of independence, we reflect on the vital role private schools have played in shaping Ghana’s educational journey. Long before state-owned schools were established, private entities—individuals, missions, and charitable organizations—pioneered accessible education for communities across the country. Their foresight and dedication laid the foundation for the nation’s education system as we know it today.

Private schools have not only complemented the efforts of the state but have also consistently set benchmarks for quality education, ensuring no child is left behind. Even in today’s evolving landscape, private schools remain indispensable pillars, empowering generations and fostering national development.

However, as Ghana strides toward progress, it is imperative for the state to fully recognize the immense contribution of private schools to our education ecosystem. The Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS) urges that the government acknowledge private schools as equal stakeholders and actively involve us in national decision-making processes. Together, we can create policies that further enhance quality education for all Ghanaian children. 🏆🤝

On this momentous day, GNAPS reaffirms its unwavering commitment to supporting and uplifting private schools across the nation. Let’s celebrate our legacy, advocate for our rightful place in shaping the future, and continue to inspire excellence in education.

Share your thoughts on the impact of private schools in Ghana! Let’s keep this conversation alive in honor of our shared heritage.
