POLICE ARREST 64 SUSPECTS, RECOVER FI****MS IN ACHIMOTA OPERATION

The Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector-General of Police (SOA), in collaboration with the National SWAT, has arrested 64 suspects for unlawful possession of fi****ms and am******on at a lounge near Achimota Mile 7 in the Greater Accra Region.

The operation followed complaints from residents about suspected criminal activities at the lounge and its surroundings, including the open display and possible trade in fi****ms.

During the operation, Police identified a blue, unregistered Acura vehicle with a pistol holster inside. The vehicle was impounded and taken to the Police Headquarters for further investigation after no person at the scene claimed ownership of the holster.

One of the suspects, Theophilus Ashon, presented himself as a Police officer attached to CID Operations. Checks, however, established that he was not a Police officer. A search of him led to the recovery of a Smith & Wesson pistol loaded with six rounds of 9mm am******on.

Further investigations led Police to Atico, where another suspect, Michael Emmanuel Kingsley Mills, was arrested. A search of his residence resulted in the recovery of three pump action guns, four pistols, 62 AA and BB cartridges, 54 rounds of 40 calibre am******on and other exhibits.

The suspects are currently in Police custody assisting investigations and will be put before the court.

POLICE INTERCEPT 2,213 SUSPECTED INDIAN H**P SLABS ON RIVER VOLTA

The Tema Regional Police Command has intercepted a wooden canoe loaded with 2,213 slabs of dried leaves suspected to be Indian h**p on the River Volta at Tuanikopey Island.

The Marine Police Detachment at Ada made the interception at about 12:45 a.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2026, during a routine patrol.

The occupants of the canoe reportedly abandoned the vessel and fled after sighting the Police.

A search of the canoe uncovered 29 sacks containing the suspected narcotic substances, along with 14 25 litre gallons, 12 of which contained pre-mixed fuel, and two Yamaha outboard motors.

The suspected narcotic substances have been conveyed to the Ada District Police Headquarters, while efforts are underway to identify and arrest the persons who abandoned the canoe and its contents.

The Police are appealing to the public for information that could assist investigations.

37 INMATES OF NSAWAM MEDIUM SECURITY PRISON SIT FOR TEACHER LICENSURE EXAMINATION.

Thirty-seven (37) inmates of the Nsawam Medium Security Prison who have completed their degree programmes have sat for the Teacher Licensure Examination at the facility on Monday, 14th September, 2026.

The examination, conducted under strict supervision by two external invigilators, supported by Ghana Prisons Service officers, forms part of the Service’s commitment to using education as a key tool for reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration.

The initiative provides inmates with opportunities to acquire qualifications and skills that can enhance their prospects for responsible and productive lives after release.

The participation of the 37 inmates in the Teacher Licensure Examination is a significant step in their rehabilitation journey, as they seek to use education to transform their lives and contribute positively to society.
