Bishop Dr. William and Mercy Wood, the founders of Akosombo Academy, believed they could change the lives of the less privileged or orphaned children through the provision of quality education at a highly subsidized fee. This desire to immerse themselves in charity work stemmed from the childhood experience of Dr. Mercy Wood as an orphan. Somewhere in 1994, they visited and distributed stationery to schools in the most deprived communities of Akosombo. As at then, they had registered their charitable organization, Wood World Missions and through it built a Nursery, Primary and Junior High School with boarding facilities to serve the orphaned children in their care and the needy in the surrounding communities. Thanks to the support of family, friends and prime sponsors the school is in its phase of expansion and on 2021, the doors of the Senior High School would officially open to the first set of Junior High School graduates. Undoubtedly, children in the school are brilliant, cultured, and talented. One cannot imagine anything less than incredible opportunities awaiting them after graduation. This is based on the school’s ability to prepare its students for the actual world by introducing theory and practical lessons to them. Nestled in the lush green vegetation and rolling hills of the townships, it provides students with that serene environment meant for mental and physical development.
