USE WHAT GOD GAVE YOU!

'WITH THE ABILITY... GOD SUPPLIES.' (1Peter 4:11 NKJV)

Peter says, 'lf anyone ministers... do it...with the ability... God supplies.' When God GIVES you an ASSIGNMENT He gives YOU all that's NEEDED to FULFILL it. In fact, by STUDYING your core COMPETENCIES, you can ACTUALLY discern your CALLING. Winston Churchill (1874-1965) a British Statesman, soldier and writer- He served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940-1945 during the Second World War, and again from 1951-1955) said, 'To EACH there COMES in his or her LIFETIME a special MOMENT when they are TAPPED on the SHOULDER and OFFERED the chance to do a VERY special THING, unique to them and FITTED to their TALENT. What a TRAGEDY if that MOMENT finds them UNPREPARED or UNQUALIFIED for that which COULD have been their FINEST hour.'

You can't ALWAYS be WHAT you WANT to be, but YOU can be EVERYTHING God wants YOU to be. That's BECAUSE He assigns and DIRECTS us 'each according to [one's] own ability' (Matthew 25:15 NKJV). What do you LOVE doing and do CONSISTENTLY well? Is MUSIC your forte? CRUNCHING numbers? Working with CHILDREN ? Paul says, 'The Spirit has given each of us a special way of serving' (1 Corinthians 12:7 CEV). That MEANS some of the THINGS other PEOPLE find BORING, will ACTUALLY energise and ENRICH you.
The Bible says that God is building a 'spiritual house' (1Peter 2:5). And THERE'S a place for EACH of us in it. KNOWING this DISPELS the MISCONCEPTION that you are not VALUABLE because you DON'T have the SAME talents OTHERS do.

It also DEFINES your actual RESPONSIBILITY by doing AWAY with the MYTH that you are SUPPOSED to do EVERYTHING. No, your GOAL should be to STAY within the BOUNDARIES of God's PLAN for YOU. So instead of APOLOGISING for the skills you DON'T have, DISCOVER the GIFTS God has GIVEN YOU and put THEM to WORK for His Kingdom.

WORRIED ABOUT MONEY?

'DO NOT WORRY.' (Matthew 6:31 NIV)

The Psalmist said, 'I was YOUNG and now I am OLD, yet I HAVE never SEEN the RIGHTEOUS forsaken or their CHILDREN begging bread' (Psalm 37:25 NIV). HAS God ever FAILED you? No, and He WON'T now: 'You will have PLENTY to EAT, until you are FULL, and you will PRAISE the name of the Lord your GOD, who has WORKED wonders for you' (Joel 2:26 NIV). Stop TRYING to figure EVERYTHING out. Instead, LEAN on God. 'TRUST in the LORD, and do GOOD; so shalt thou DWELL in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

DELIGHT thyself ALSO in the Lord; and he shall GIVE THEE the DESIRES of thine HEART. Commit thy way UNTO the Lord; trust also in HIM; and he SHALL BRING it to pass' (Psalm 37:3-5). Just keep DOING what God has told YOU to do: "OBEY all the LAW my SERVANT MOSES gave you; do not TURN from it to the RIGHT or to the left, THAT you may BE SUCCESSFUL WHEREVER you go. Do not let this BOOK of the LAW depart from your MOUTH; meditate on it DAY and NIGHT, so that you may be CAREFUL to do EVERYTHING written in it. Then you will be PROSPEROUS and SUCCESSFUL .... do not be DISCOURAGED, for the Lord your God will be with you WHEREVER you go" (Joshua 1:7-9 NIV).

Don't be ANXIOUS; God won't FAIL you. 'Do not WORRY, saying, "What SHALL WE EAT?" or "What SHALL we drink?" or "What SHALL we WEAR?".... your heavenly Father KNOWS that you NEED them. But SEEK first his KINGDOM and his RIGHTEOUSNESS, and all these THINGS will be GIVEN to you as well' (Matthew 6:31-33 I NIV). Relax, He's Jehovah Jireh, 'The LORD will PROVIDE!'

Monday 7th November 2022.

STOP AND SEE

BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD. (Psalm 46:10)
READ: 1 Kings 19:1-12

When my OPHTHALMOLOGIST says, "BE STILL," I am STILL. I don't ARGUE. I don't BECOME defiant. I don't STAY busy BEHIND his BACK. Why? Because he is a RENOWNED eye SURGEON who is TRYING to PRESERVE my SIGHT, and he NEEDS my COOPERATION. I would be FOOLISH to IGNORE his INSTRUCTIONS. So why am I not as COOPERATIVE in MATTERS of SPIRITUAL STILLNESS.? God CONSIDERS rest so IMPORTANT that He BUILT it into the rhythm of life. Without REST we can't see CLEARLY; we BEGIN to see OURSELVES as MORE IMPORTANT than WE are.

After Elijah's STRESSFUL CONFRONTATION with Ahab and Jezebel, he ran HIMSELF into a STATE of EXHAUSTION. God SENT an ANGEL to CARE for him. During a time of STILLNESS, "the word of the LORD came to him" (1 Kings 19:9). Elijah THOUGHT he ALONE was DOING God's work. He had been so ZEALOUS that he DIDN'T know that 7,000 others HADN'T bowed to Baal (v. 18). Some of us MAY fear WHAT will HAPPEN if we sit STILL and STOP working. But SOMETHING worse HAPPENS when we REFUSE to rest. Without REST we CANNOT be SPIRITUALLY or PHYSICALLY healthy. God HEALS while we REST.

Just as l NEEDED STILLNESS so that my EYE could HEAL, we all need STILLNESS so that God can KEEP our SPIRITUAL vision CLEAR. Our GREATEST strength may be our ABILITY to STAND still and TRUST God.

FREE TO BE QUIET

'HE OPENED NOT HIS MOUTH.' (Isaiah 53:7 NKJV)

Sometimes it's WISE to wait, to say, 'l don't have the answer right now but I will think about it, pray, and get back to you.' Your need to RESCUE someone, or IMPRESS them and make points, will come back to BITE you. The Bible says, 'A prudent man keeps his knowledge to himself, but the heart of fools blurts out folly' (Proverbs 12:23 NIV). Allow WISDOM to DETERMINE your RESPONSE , not EGO! When people are ANXIOUS for ANSWERS they will PRESSURE you into SPEAKING before you have all the FACTS or have TAKEN time to PRAY and CONSIDER the situation. If you ASK Him, God will tell YOU what to SAY and WHEN to SAY it. His PROMISE is: 'l have put my words in your mouth and covered you with the shadow of my hand' (lsaiah 51:16 NIV). Ego says, 'Don't JUST stand THERE, say something.' WISDOM says, 'Don't JUST say SOMETHING, stand there!' Quietly ASK God for insight. One insight from Him can settle THINGS in a HURRY . SOMEONE else's NEED to know shouldn't DETERMINE your need to SPEAK.

When Jesus STOOD before PILATE in JUDGMENT He said, 'DO you THINK l CANNOT call on my Father, and he will at ONCE put at my DISPOSAL more than twelve legions of angels?' (Matthew 26:53 NIV). Yet the Bible says, 'He opened not his mouth.' When He was brought before PILATE , Jesus just STOOD there and said NOTHING. That's because He was not on trial, Pilate was. Jesus knew His DESTINY, and most importantly, He knew His FATHER intimately. And when you KNOW God, you can FACE anything with CONFIDENCE; and be FREE to be QUIET . What a WONDERFUL place to be!

STAYING WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE QUITTING

'.... LOVE... KEEPS GOING TO THE END.' (1Corinthians 13:4-7 TM)

When Edward and Alice went for MARRIAGE counselling the counsellor asked Alice, 'What first ATTRACTED you to Edward?' She replied, 'His strong, silent temperament.' The counsellor continued, 'So why do you WANT a divorce?' Alice answered, 'His strong, silent temperament!' Sometimes what drew us TOGETHER ends up a major IRRITANT. In every RELATIONSHIP there are TIMES when it SEEMS it would be EASIER to quit than to HANG in. But short of PHYSICAL and EMOTIONAL abuse, there are ADVANTAGES to working THROUGH your issues. For example, there are:

1) EMOTIONAL BENEFITS.
Contrary to what the world CELEBRITIES would have us believe, (Divorce rate is high among them) DIVORCED people are MORE likely to feel DEPRESSED due to LONELINESS. In fact, many say although there were DISAGREEMENTS in the RELATIONSHIP, they MISS having somebody to come HOME to.

2) HEALTH BENEFITS.
Emotional stress leads to PHYSICAL problems, and being in a RELATIONSHIP, especially a GOOD marriage, can be BENEFICIAL for your HEALTH. It's like having your own NURSE or therapist.

3) COMMUNITY BENEFITS.
What your CHILDREN see INFLUENCES their future choices. Staying in your MARRIAGE teaches THEM how to work through RELATIONSHIP challenges. Couples with STRONG marriages are HELPING to build a nation of LOVING, responsible PARENTS who can GUIDE their CHILDREN onto the right track. 'Love... Keeps going to the end.'

American author Christy Scannell says, 'When [my husband and I] got married, we AGREED it was for LIFE .... Weeks before our wedding we made a PACT to work out whatever PROBLEMS came our way.... Yes, we FIGHT. We ACCUSE. We toss barbs... but we won't be MOVING out or filing papers... whatever happens we are STAYING .'

FIND A WAY TO SAY 'THANK YOU'

'l thank my God upon every remembrance of you.' (Philippians 1:3)

An American author and a Hall of Fame speaker Barbara Glanz tells about a successful business man who remembered his 8th grade literature teacher. He wrote to her and received this reply: 'You will never know how much your letter meant. l am 83 and living alone. My friends and family are all gone. l taught school for fifty years and yours is the first THANK- YOU l have ever gotten from a student. Sometimes l wonder what l did with my life. l will read, and reread your letter until the day l die.' ironically, she was the teacher students talked most about at class reunions, but nobody ever told her.

Paul was uncompromising on the truth, but his sensitive side also shows up in his writings. Knowing our need for appreciation he opens his Epistles with words like: 'I make mention of you always in my prayers' (Rom.1:9 NKJV). 'Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, do not cease to give thanks for you'( Ephesians 1:15-16 NKJV). 'I thank my God upon every remembrance of you...for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ' (Philippians 1:3-6 NKJV). 'We...boast of you among the churches of God for your patience...in all your persecutions and tribulations that you endure' (2 Thessalonians 1:3-4 NKJV)

In our BUSY, SELF-CENTRED WORLD, we need to remember those who have made a difference in our LIVES, and when they come to mind, PRAY FOR THEM, AND FIND A WAY TO say 'THANK YOU'.
