5 Secrets to Boost Your Child's Brain Power at Home 🧠✨
Education doesn't end at 3:00 PM! 🕒By Dr. Kwaning Kwabena Amoah Nyame. (Principal, Family Trust International School)
As your Principal, I’m often asked: "How can I help my students become sharper and more creative at home?"
The secret is in the "Whole-Brain" approach. Here are 5 simple, Ghanaian-parent-approved tips to nurture both the analytical left and the creative right brain this week:
The "Market Math" Challenge (Left Brain) 💰 Next time you're shopping, ask your child to help you calculate the change or compare prices of two items. It turns "sums" into real-world problem-solving!
Storytelling with a Twist (Right Brain) 📖 Don’t just read a story—ask them to change the ending! "What if Ananse had shared the pot of wisdom?" This builds imagination and critical thinking.
Nature’s Science Lab (Analytical & Creative) 🌱 Plant a few seeds in a tin. Let them track the growth (analytical) and draw pictures of the leaves as they change (creative).
The "Why" Game ❓ When your child asks "Why?", don't just give the answer. Ask, "What do YOU think is the reason?" This strengthens the neural pathways used for logic.
Music & Movement (Total Brain Integration) 🥁 Traditional drumming or dancing to your favorite highlife tune isn't just fun—it requires the brain to coordinate rhythm (math) with expression (art).
The Family Trust Promise: We do our part in the classroom, but with your partnership at home, your child becomes unstoppable! 🚀
The "Call to Action: "Which of these will you try this evening? Let us know in the comments!"
