Mezzo House Limited Makes History with World Maths Day Celebration in Accra
Accra, Ghana – 28 March 2025 – On 26th March 2025, Mezzo House Limited brought together students, educators, and mathematics professionals for a landmark celebration of mathematics at the Gimba GB Auditorium in Accra. The event—held in honour of World Mathematics Day and the International Day of Mathematics—drew over 250 students from schools across the region and was proudly supported by CBL West Africa Ltd.
Under the theme “Playing with Mathematics,” the programme highlighted the importance of mathematics as both an academic discipline and a practical tool for everyday life. Through insightful panel discussions, expert presentations, and interactive sessions, the event inspired a new generation of learners to think critically and engage with mathematics beyond the classroom.
A Gathering of Minds and Expertise
Distinguished panelists from academia, assessments bodies, and mathematics advocacy organisations shared their expertise with participants. The discussions centred on topics critical to improving mathematics engagement and learning outcomes, including:
How students can see the practical applications of mathematics to boost interest.
The role of parents in shaping positive attitudes toward mathematics.
Collaborative strategies for teachers, parents, and policymakers to enhance student performance.
Use of technological tools to aid the understanding of mathematical concepts.
The importance of language and communication in making mathematics accessible to all learners.
Bishop Dr. Peter O. Akoto, CEO of Mezzo House Ltd, emphasised that mathematics is not simply a subject confined to textbooks but a fundamental tool that informs daily activities such as financial decisions, culinary measurements, and analytical thinking. His remarks challenged students to view mathematics as an indispensable part of life beyond the classroom.
Support and Collaboration
The celebration was made possible through the support of CBL West Africa Ltd, whose sponsorship enabled Mezzo House to create a vibrant and impactful learning experience for students. Additionally, several participating schools took pride in notable achievements, with learners receiving recognition for outstanding engagement during the programme’s activities.
Voices from the Event
Representatives from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) encouraged students to strengthen foundational skills and not just memorise formulas but understand the reasoning behind mathematical processes. Experts also reminded teachers and guardians of the importance of nurturing curiosity and providing supportive learning environments for students.
Growing Momentum for Maths Education
Coverage of the event was featured on several media platforms as part of broader national conversations on mathematics education in Ghana. Schools such as My Redeemer School reported active participation and recognition for their students’ performance, further showcasing the reach and impact of Mezzo House’s initiatives.
The success of this year’s celebration underlines Mezzo House’s commitment to reimagining mathematics education—ensuring it is engaging, accessible, and relevant to the needs of Ghana’s young learners.
