CSBPD HOSTS 10-DAY EXCEL TRAINING WORKSHOP

The Centre for Strategic Business and Professional Development (CSBPD) at GCTU successfully hosted a 10-day training workshop on basic and advanced Excel skills from Monday, 17th to Friday, 28th March 2025, at the Forensic Lab.
Designed for professionals from various organizations, the training aimed at enhancing productivity, improving data analysis skills and providing a deeper understanding of Excel’s powerful features and tools.

Speaking at the training, the Director for CSBPD, Mrs. Araba Hackman Akanji, reaffirmed the Centre’s dedication to offering high-quality, non-academic programmes focused on leadership development, professional skills and industry-specific training. “This programme is designed to equip individuals with the knowledge, skills and expertise necessary to excel in their careers and drive success in their respective industries,” she stated.
She encouraged participants to apply what they had learned in practical, real-world scenarios to maximize the benefits of the training.

Mrs. Hackman Akanji concluded her remarks with a quote from Bill Gates: “Excel is the world’s most widely used tool for turning data into insights.”
The training was facilitated by the System Integration Manager at Telecel, Mr. Gilbert Cadman, who delivered an engaging and insightful presentation. He covered a wide range of Excel topics, including:
* Navigating the Excel interface
* Creating and formatting objects
* Understanding worksheet components
* Deleting and formatting worksheets
* Performing basic arithmetic operations
* Formatting cells and numbers

Mr. Cadman also demonstrated advanced techniques such as using wildcards to refine data searches, filtering datasets to extract valuable insights and implementing data validation to enhance accuracy.
He guided participants through essential Excel formulas and functions, including how to write basic formulas for calculations and data manipulation. Special focus was given to the COUNT function family which includes COUNT, COUNTA and COUNTBLANK, highlighting their versatility in handling numerical and text-based data.

Additionally, he emphasized the importance of selecting multiple cells for efficient data management and explored the Help Pane in Excel, underscoring its value as a built-in resource for users needing assistance with specific tasks. He also provided a step-by-step guide on using the MAX and MIN functions to identify the highest and lowest values in datasets.

In the closing remarks delivered by the Professional Programmes Coordinator at CSBPD, Mr. Louis Akorli, on behalf of Mrs. Hackman Akanji, he commended participants for their dedication. He emphasized GCTU’s commitment to excellence and urged attendees to apply their newfound skills effectively while serving as ambassadors of the training programme.

The workshop concluded with a certificate ceremony, recognizing the participants’ successful completion of the intensive 10-day training.
