PART A [30 Marks]
Question 1 (Compulsory)
(a) Recipe for Sweet Pancakes
Ingredients: 2 cups Flour, 2 tablespoons Sugar, 1 teaspoon Baking powder, a pinch of Salt, 1 Egg, 1 ½ cups Milk (or water), 2 tablespoons melted Butter/Oil, and Vanilla essence.
Method:
Sift the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt into a bowl.
In a separate bowl, whisk the egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla.
Make a well in the dry ingredients and pour in the wet mixture. Whisk until smooth.
Heat a lightly greased frying pan over medium heat.
Pour a ladle of batter onto the pan. Cook until bubbles form on the surface, then flip and cook the other side until golden brown.
(b) Three reasons for serving a fruit drink with queen cakes:
Nutritional Balance: Fruit drinks provide vitamins and minerals that complement the carbohydrates in the cakes.
Palatability: The moisture from the drink makes it easier to swallow the relatively dry texture of queen cakes.
Efficiency: Since the visitors arrived unexpectedly, a fruit drink is quick to prepare or serve compared to hot beverages.
(c) Three preparations before freehand cutting a shirt:
Fabric Preparation: Launder and iron the fabric to remove shrinkage and wrinkles.
Taking Measurements: Accurately measure the person (chest, shoulder, shirt length, etc.).
Marking: Lay the fabric flat and use tailor’s chalk to mark the measurements directly onto the cloth.

Climate/Comfort: The material should be breathable (like cotton) to ensure students stay cool in warm weather.
(b) Differentiating between food commodities and food:
Food Commodities: These are raw, unprocessed agricultural products traded in large quantities (e.g., bulk sacks of grain, raw cocoa beans, or unrefined sugar).
Food: This refers to any nutritious substance that people eat or drink to maintain life, which can be raw or processed/cooked for immediate consumption.
(c) Two reasons why it is important to set the table:
Aesthetics and Appetite: A well-set table looks organized and makes the meal more inviting.
Etiquette and Convenience: It ensures all necessary cutlery and tools are within reach, promoting orderly eating habits.

(a) Four types of accidents in a food laboratory:
Burns or scalds from hot surfaces or liquids.
Cuts from knives or broken glassware.
Slips and falls due to spilled liquids or grease on the floor.
Electric shocks from faulty kitchen appliances.
(b) Three steps involved in setting up a small-scale business:
Business Idea and Market Research: Identify what you want to sell and check if people in the area want to buy it.
Capital Mobilization: Secure the funds needed for equipment, rent, and raw materials.
Registration/Licensing: Obtain the necessary permits from local authorities to operate legally.
(c) Design brief for Mr. Asare's home:
"Design and make a manual or mechanical device that can quickly and uniformly slice okro to reduce food preparation time and prevent late dinners."
PART B [30 Marks]
Question 4 (Compulsory)
(a) (i) Type of joint: Lap Riveted Joint.
(ii) Three tools: Ball pein hammer, Rivet set, and Drill (with bits).
(b) Sequential Order:
III. Separate plates and remove all burrs;
IV. Mark out the holes to receive the rivet and drill;
V. Select a suitable rivet and insert it in the holes from the back;
I. Hold down the plates with a rivet set;
VI. Remove the rivet set and use the face of the hammer to spread out the tail end of the rivet.
II. Finish off the riveting with an appropriate hammer;
(c) (i) Two safety precautions when drilling:
Ensure the metal is firmly clamped in a vice to prevent it from spinning.
Wear safety goggles to protect eyes from flying metal chips (swarf).
(ii) One reason riveting was chosen: It provides a permanent, vibration-resistant join without the need for high-heat equipment like welders.
Question 5
(a) (i) Name of figure: Cone.
(ii) Projections: (You would draw a triangle for the front view and a circle with a center point for the plan view based on the 60mm height and 40mm diameter).
