The National Teaching Council (NTC) says about 42,000 teachers across basic and senior high schools are currently teaching without professional qualifications.

A nationwide survey identified 12,279 unqualified teachers in SHS and over 30,000 in basic schools.

The NTC, in collaboration with five universities, has launched an 18-week fast-track programme to help affected teachers obtain professional certification and licences. The first cohort of 1,400 teachers is ongoing, with the next intake opening in June.
