NaCCA, NaSIA CHART ROADMAP TO ALIGN FOREIGN CURRICULA IN Pulse Ghana

On Friday, 8th August 2025, the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) hosted a strategic meeting with the National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA) at NaCCA’s offices in Accra. Chaired by NaCCA’s Director-General, Professor Samuel Ofori Bekoe, the meeting brought together the two Deputy Director-Generals of NaCCA, directors, and senior officials from both institutions. The NaSIA delegation was led by the Deputy Inspector-General (Operations), Mr. Felix Kofi Amegah.

The primary focus of the engagement was the development of a roadmap for the regulation and alignment of foreign curricula for pre-tertiary education in Ghana. This initiative seeks to ensure that all foreign curricula offered in the country meet national education standards, align with Ghana’s curriculum framework, and support the holistic development of learners.

In addition to the roadmap discussions, the meeting also explored ways to strengthen collaboration between the two agencies in key areas such as improving curriculum implementation, enhancing the effectiveness of school inspections, and integrating assessment data to better inform teaching and learning. Both institutions emphasised the importance of regular joint planning, clear communication, and coordinated actions to avoid duplication and maximise impact in education sector reforms.

A major outcome of the meeting was the establishment of a joint working committee, comprising members from both agencies to coordinate future collaborative activities. It was also agreed that the National Teaching Council (NTC) will be invited to nominate representatives to serve on the committee.

Closing the meeting, Professor Bekoe highlighted the shared responsibility of NaCCA and NaSIA in safeguarding the quality of education in Ghana. He stressed that the alignment of curricula, whether local or foreign, must be complemented by effective monitoring, assessment, and feedback mechanisms to achieve the desired learning outcomes.

NaCCA Conducts Cohort 3 Endline Assessor Training and Data Collection for the Out-of-School Children (OOSC) Assessment Programme.

From July 25th to 26th, 2025, the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) organised a comprehensive 2-day assessor training followed by a 10-day data collection exercise for the Cohort 3 Endline of Out-of-School Children (OOSC) Assessment. This project aims to evaluate the learning outcomes of learners participating in the programme across four key regions: Savannah, Northern, North East, and Oti.
The intensive training, held on July 25th and 26th, saw 140 enumerators equipped with the necessary skills to conduct standardised assessments in local languages, including Likpakpaln, Brifour, Dagbani, Ewe, Ashanti Twi, Gonja, Mampruli, and Dagaare. Training modules covered assessment procedures, the use of digital tablets, ethical considerations, and data quality assurance, ensuring culturally sensitive and accurate evaluations.
Following the training, the data collection phase began on July 28th and spanned ten days. Assessors were deployed across ALP centers, utilizing digital tablets to facilitate real-time data entry and effective supervision. The integration of technology streamlined data management and troubleshooting, maintaining high standards of data integrity throughout the process.
Madam Anita Collison, Director of NaCCA’s Standards, Assessment, and Quality Assurance Directorate, emphasized the importance of this effort: “This comprehensive data collection is vital for understanding the impact of the Accelerated Learning Programme. The insights gained will shape our strategies to enhance educational access and outcomes for out-of-school children across Ghana.”
The success of this extensive assessment exercise was made possible through strong coordination of NaCCA’s facilitators. With robust logistical support and a focus on data-driven decision-making, NaCCA continues to pave the way for a brighter future for Ghana’s children.

Education Minister Inaugurates New NaCCA Board to Lead Curriculum Reforms.

The Minister for Education, Honourable Haruna Iddrisu (MP), inaugurated the newly constituted Governing Board of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) on Wednesday, 3rd July 2025 at the Ministry of Education in Accra. The event marked a significant step towards deepening the Council’s mandate of shaping Ghana’s education system to meet evolving national and global needs.

At the ceremony, Honourable Iddrisu charged the Board, chaired by Professor Vincent Assanful, to bring renewed focus and urgency to the upcoming review of the kindergarten and primary school curricula. He stressed the need to integrate basic life skills, socio-emotional learning, and national values into early childhood education to nurture well-rounded learners from the foundational level.

The Minister expressed concern about the increasing use of mobile phones by students to cheat during examinations, describing it as a growing threat to academic integrity. He expressed optimism that a revised curriculum, rooted in patriotism, civic responsibility, and discipline, would help address this worrying trend. He called for a curriculum that not only imparts knowledge but instills a sense of responsibility, nationalism, and character.

Honourable Iddrisu reiterated the Ministry’s vision of building an education system anchored on three core principles: access, inclusiveness, and relevance. According to him, these pillars are essential in ensuring that all learners, regardless of their background, benefit meaningfully from education.

Following his swearing-in, Professor Vincent Assanful, the new Board Chair, delivered a stirring acceptance address. Drawing a vivid metaphor, he likened NaCCA’s role to that of a midwife, who supports the birth and nurturing of knowledge in children. He assured the Minister that under the stewardship of the new Board, NaCCA would maintain rigorous quality standards, particularly in curriculum design, instructional resource development, and assessment frameworks.

Professor Assanful echoed the Minister’s sentiments on emerging technologies, expressing strong support for the integration of Artificial Intelligence into teaching and learning. He stated that the Council would actively promote AI literacy in schools to ensure learners are not only consumers of knowledge but participants in a future shaped by innovation.
