THE MMG FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES 2026 MARCUS GARVEY DAY FUNDRAISING GALA TO EXPAND FREE VOCATIONAL TRAINING FOR AFRICAN YOUTHS
ACCRA, GHANA — August 10, 2026 — The Marcus Mosiah Garvey Foundation (MMGF) has officially announced its annual Marcus Garvey Day Fundraising Gala 2026, taking place on Saturday, 22 August 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra.
Under the theme “Legacy in Motion,” this year’s flagship event serves a dual purpose. It commemorates the 139th anniversary of Pan-African pioneer the Rt. Excellent Marcus Mosiah Garvey, while celebrating the life and enduring vision of MMGF’s late Co-Founder and Chairperson, Mrs. Naomi Patricia Palmer-Buchanan (Wudase Mariam), who passed away in December 2025.
Following this transition, newly appointed Chief Executive Officer Neville Buchanan is leading a major fundraising drive at the Gala. The foundation aims to acquire larger, permanent premises to scale its operations into a world-class vocational training facility. This expansion will allow the academy to quadruple its student intake and introduce advanced technical courses to combat youth unemployment in Ghana.
The gala comes on the heels of remarkable academic excellence. For the second consecutive year, MMGF has recorded a 100% pass rate in the national Ghana Energy Commission (GEC) examinations. Trainees from the current cohort will attend the event to demonstrate their practical technical skills in solar power engineering, domestic electrical wiring, and CCTV installation. The students will also perform original songs and drama highlighting the contemporary lived experiences of Ghanaian youth.
"Our training model bridges the gap between raw potential and economic self-reliance," said Neville Buchanan, CEO of MMGF. "By working closely with industry partners like MMG Whirlwind Ltd, we ensure our youth transition directly from free education into stable employment and entrepreneurship. We are calling on our community, partners, and the public to help us build a permanent home to secure this future."
The event will bring together dignitaries from various government departments, corporate partners, and the Pan-African community. Attendees will enjoy a premium three-course Caribbean meal, live musical performances, cultural displays, and an exhibition of African-Caribbean art and artifacts.
