he chief of the town. Osei-Akoto, the then member of Parliament in the 2nd Republic for the area started a secondary school in the chief’s house. The school was named after Dr. J.B. Danquah, the great philosopher and politician of blessed memory. Danquah memorial secondary school as it was known closed down after two years of existence because of the overthrown of the 2nd Republic by the military in 1972. After a period of 18 years without a secondary school, the people gathered together at the Methodist park to celebrate the June 4th Anniversary, 1990. At the celebration, a suggestion came from Mr. Osei-Akoto to the gathering that time had come, for Akoase to have a senior secondary school to cater for the children whose parents would not be able to sponsor them to boarding. The gathering greeted his suggestion with great enthusiasm and straight away made a financial contribution of sixteen thousand cedis now (GH1.60) and gave it to Mr. Osei -Akoto for safe keeping. This amount in addition to 40 bags of cement donated by the Town Development Committee, the community started work on the proposed senior secondary school. At the start of the project, the chairman of the Town Development Committee, Mr. I.K Boakye donated enough blocks for the construction of the first six-unit classroom block and was done through communal labor. Financial as well as material assistance came from the following; the Akoase Citizen Welfare Association of Accra, Tema, Kumasi and Koforidua, the Birim North District Assembly, the PAMSCAD Secretariat and others. The school was official absorbed into the public school system in January, 1993. Charles Tabi Antwi was however appointed the first substantive head of the school with two permanent teachers and six national service personnel serving under him with the student’s population of forty-seven (47). On 5th May,1993, the Ghana Education service approval for the change of name and management of the school from Akoase senior secondary to St. Michael’s Senior Secondary School, Akoase, under the management of the Catholic Educational Unit. Admission to form one is strictly by BECE conducted by the West African Examination Council and through the computerized school Selection Placement System (CSSPS). SPIRITUAL AND MORAL TRAINING
Although the school is under the Catholic Education Unit, students from other religious backgrounds are admitted and they undergo moral training as specified by the Ghana Education Service rules and regulations. Much emphasis is placed on moral training to prepare students for a responsible adult life that will enable them offer dedicated and selfless service to their fellow men and women. GENERAL BEHAVIOUR
Students are trained to become hardworking, responsible and well-behaved citizens. Tribalism and religious intolerance are of the question. The use of bad language, quarrelling, fighting, hooting and screaming are strictly forbidden. It is mandatory to dress clean and whole, greet everybody, be respectful and polite.
