Working with Ghana Education Service to develop low-cost, hands-on activities for classrooms. PEN is composed of MIT students and alumni on three continents.

PEN empowers teachers around the world to engage their students in hands-on science within the structure of traditional education programs.Teacher training for local capacity building is PEN's foundation. We are piloting additional initiatives on top of that to build out a thriving network of educators and students. Our awards include the Global Villages Challenge in the 2011 MIT IDEAS competition

Throwback to last week’s celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science!

Together with the Science Education Unit of the Ghana Education Service and other stakeholders, we spent the day encouraging young learners to explore the world through science.

We commend Madam Olivia, the Director of the Science Education Unit, for her commitment to promoting STEM education and for her continued support for Practical Education Network (PEN)’s work.

PEN STEM POP-UP 02! 🔧🚀
Last Thursday, we hosted the second edition of our PEN STEM Pop-Up at Special Grace Academy.

Learners engaged in hands-on STEM activities, robotics, and simple engineering challenges, exploring their creativity and curiosity every step of the way.

It was inspiring to see students persevere until their solutions and projects worked.
A big thank you to the school leadership and our amazing facilitators for creating such a meaningful learning experience for learners.

This event is yet another testament to hands-on learning in building the next generation of problem-solvers.

During COMSTEDA 22,
Malawian Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) featured PEN’s contribution to practical STEM reform in Ghana, demonstrating how hands-on, locally available materials can transform classroom learning.

The feature highlighted the importance of indigenous, skills-based teaching in building community-centred problem solvers and reducing reliance on imported solutions across the continent.

It was a pleasure participating in COMSTEDA 22 and engaging in this important regional dialogue.
