Food safety is not just for professionalsโ€”it is knowledge that should start early.

As part of the ๐’๐œ๐ข๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž ๐ข๐ง ๐“๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ฌ ๐’๐“๐„๐Œ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ ๐ซ๐š๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ž, the Food Safety Hub had the opportunity to engage students through an interactive food safety session, making important concepts practical, relatable and fun.

The students were taken through:

๐Ÿ”น ๐…๐จ๐จ๐ ๐‡๐š๐ณ๐š๐ซ๐๐ฌ โ€“ identifying biological, chemical and physical hazards that can affect food safety
๐Ÿ”น๐ฉ๐‡ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐…๐จ๐จ๐ ๐’๐š๐Ÿ๐ž๐ญ๐ฒ โ€“ exploring how the pH of a food product can influence its safety, quality and shelf life

โœณ๏ธ What made the experience even more impactful was the ๐จ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ฎ๐๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ฌ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ฅ๐ž๐š๐ซ๐ง ๐›๐ฒ ๐๐จ๐ข๐ง๐ โ€”examining real food products, discussing labels and applying food safety concepts in a practical setting โœณ๏ธ

We were also pleased to have GBfoods Ghana-๐ƒ๐ข๐๐ข ๐’๐ก๐ข๐ญ๐จ support the workshop through technical facilitators who engaged and educated the students, as well as sponsorship through products & souvenirs. This collaboration demonstrates the impact that industry partnerships can have in inspiring young minds and building a stronger food safety culture.

A big thank you to Vacation Initiatives In Science Africa the organizers of the Science in Tents Programme, for creating this platform to expose young people to science beyond the classroom.
