Meet the Chairperson of the Strategic Advisory Board for the Norway-Ghana Alumni Association: Prof. Marian Asantewah Nkansah (PhD , MRSC, FGA)

Prof. Marian Asantewah Nkansah is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST), where she earned both her BSc. and MSc. degrees. She also holds a PhD in Environmental Chemistry from the Universitetet i Bergen (University of Bergen) Norway.

Prof. Nkansah's research is broad and impactful, focusing on environmental challenges related to toxic substances, including heavy/trace metals, persistent organic pollutants (POPs), and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in various environmental matrices. Her work also explores remediation strategies for these contaminants.

In addition to her research, Prof. Nkansah has received training in Science Diplomacy and Science Advice for Policy, contributing to national and international discussions aimed at enhancing public understanding of science. She is a thought leader and an inspiring motivational speaker.

Prof. Nkansah is the founder of the Women in Chemistry Network (WICN) and is affiliated with several professional organisations, including the Ghana Chemical Society, the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), the Ghana Science Association, and the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (GAAS).

She is a Fellow of the International Science Council (ISC), an alumna of the Global Young Academy (GYA), and an affiliate of both the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and the African Academy of Sciences (AAS). She is also a Fellow of the Next Einstein’s Forum (NEF).

Prof. Nkansah has previously served as the Warden of Africa Hall at KNUST and is currently the Deputy Director of Students' Affairs (Housing and Welfare) at KNUST. She is an active member of the Women in STEM Ghana group, committed to mentoring young students in their pursuit of STEM careers, and serves as a mentor and role model for many.

In her personal time, Prof. Nkansah enjoys teaching, storytelling, travelling, and hiking.

We are proud to announce the appointment of Ing. Dr. David Ato Quansah, PhD, as the Director of The Brew-Hammond Energy Centre at KNUST. Dr. Quansah, who holds a PhD in Renewable Energy from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), brings exceptional expertise and leadership to this role.
