Based on my 12 years of experience teaching and studying digital marketing, I share with you three major categories of words you need to know to succeed in your marketing-related communication in English as a non-native English speaker.
The first category refers to the general business vocabulary used for business communication and correspondence, relevant abbreviations and idioms, like “ to call it a day”, “to think outside the box”, to “circle back”, etc.
The second category includes general marketing-related terms and their meanings, such as customer experience, customer experience journey, purchase funnel, conversion, lifetime value, brand awareness, lead generation, etc.
And the third category refers to the terms used on the specific platform relevant to your field, whether you work on Meta platforms like Facebook or Instagram, Google Platforms like Google Analytics or Google Ads, visualisation platforms like Tableau, in UX/UI using Figma, creating and optimising websites using content management systems like WordPress or Wix.
These platforms generally have their own glossaries, and it is always good to know relevant terms for clear communication with colleagues.
All of this may sound overwhelming, I understand.
So, to support you on this journey of learning, I create free English exercises for digital marketers, host free open discussion club for people interested in digital marketing, and I post Online Open Lectures on my YouTube channel.
You can also check out The MarTech Guide I wrote to help you learn about your potential in the marketing technology-related field. Moreover, I offer individual online consultations to improve your communication skills to move closer to the marketing career of your dreams.
