What an incredible first week back at Ysgol Antur Cwm! 🌿 Our pupils have hit the ground running, diving into everything from fishing, mountain biking, St Faggons, Golf, and gym sessions to cooking and local retail experiences.

At the heart of what we do is a thematic approach to learning.

We don't believe in one-size-fits-all education. Instead, we find what truly sparks a young person's interest, whether that’s fishing or fitnes, and tailor their individual learning goals around those passions.

Seeing our learners build resilience and new skills through these hands-on experiences is exactly why we do what we do.

Cooking is so much more than just making a meal at Ysgol Antur Cwm.

This year, one of our young people has been exploring the world through his love of food! By focusing on international cuisines, we are able to weave essential life skills into every lesson.

From budgeting for ingredients (Maths) and reading recipes (English), to understanding how heat changes food (Science), to plating the dish (Creativity) this thematic approach makes learning feel relevant and exciting.

It’s wonderful to see such focus and artistic creativity shine through in the kitchen. Da iawn to our budding chef for embracing these challenges and building his independence! Also, the team Love the meals he makes for everyone.

The new academic year is officially underway at Ysgol Antur Cwm! 🏔️✨ Today wasn’t about sitting behind desks; it was about hitting the ground running and finding our strengths.

Our pupils have been busy across the community:
🏋️‍♂️ Building confidence at the local gym
🖼️ Exploring history and RSE at local museums
🍳 Developing professional catering skills
📝 Working hard on Agored Cymru Essential Skills for Work and Life qualifications

We believe in education that meets the learner where they are. By tailoring our curriculum to be thematic and strength-based, we help our young people build the resilience and skills they need for the future. We've added five new members to the Ysgol Antur Cwm team 👋

Between them, they bring a huge amount of experience across outdoor education, youth development, behaviour and inclusion, coaching, HR, vocational learning and preparing young people for life beyond school.

That includes extensive experience in mountain activities, paddlesports, cycling, climbing and rescue, alongside senior experience working with young people with ALN and SEMH needs, supporting behaviour and inclusion, and helping people develop the skills they need for education and employment.

It's a really good mix for us.

As the school grows, we're not just looking to add more people. We want to keep adding different skills, experience and opportunities that directly improve what we can offer our pupils.

The mountains are always changing, and the best instructors never stop learning! 🏔️✨

While our pupils, and team, at Ysgol Antur Cwm are recharging this summer, our Co-Founder Rhys is busy undertaking intensive Continuing Professional Development (CPD). As a Mountaineering & Climbing Instructor (MCI) and our Educational Visits Co-ordinator, Rhys knows that safety and excellence in outdoor education require constant refinement.

From testing complex rope systems to sharpening risk management in challenging terrain, this hands-on training ensures we continue to provide the very best therapeutic outdoor support for our young people. Wales offers incredible training, but exploring different environments keeps our skills sharp and our perspectives fresh. 🧗‍♂️💪

We believe that to lead others, we must never stop challenging ourselves. Standards matter, and we’re proud to have a team that walks the walk.

Exciting news at Ysgol Antur Cwm! 🎉

We are officially expanding to a second site, this time in Lower Rhymney.

This new location in the Valleys will allow us to reach even more young people who thrive in outdoor, therapeutic learning environments.

In just four days, we've been working hard to get the site ready:

✅ Electrical installation completed and certified
✅ PAT testing completed
✅ Fire and smoke alarms serviced
✅ New boiler installed and certified
✅ Fire Risk Assessment approved

With ample outdoor space and secure boundaries, we're creating a safe environment where young people can build confidence, resilience and thrive.

Expanding from one site to two in less than two years reflects our commitment to increasing access to high quality specialist education for pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN).

We're continually planning ahead, investing in our provision, and looking for ways to make an even greater impact for the young people and families we serve.

Our next step is submitting our formal material change application to the Welsh Government.

We're incredibly excited about what the future holds.

As we close the door on the 2025/26 academic year, it's incredible to reflect on how far we've come.

Yesterday we finished the year with specialist coasteering CPD at Ogmore-by-Sea, developing our rescue techniques, venue knowledge and safety skills before enjoying a team meal together at the Three Golden Cups.

It was also a chance to say goodbye to two valued members of our team. One is joining the Fire Service, while the other is heading to university to study Physiotherapy. We wish them both every success in the next chapter.

To everyone who has supported us, from our our staff, families, local authorities, partners and, above all, our incredible pupils, thank you.

Here's to an exciting 2026/27. Have a brilliant summer! 🌿💙

As we close the door on the 2025/26 academic year, it's incredible to reflect on how far we've come.

It was also a chance to say goodbye to two valued members of our team. One is joining the Fire Service, while the other is heading to university to study Physiotherapy. We wish them both every success in the next chapter.

Looking at this first photo is a reminder of just how much has changed.

Just over two years ago, there were only three of us with an idea: to create a different kind of school for young people who weren't thriving in traditional education.

Today we're a team of 15. In September, we'll welcome another five colleagues, taking us to 18, alongside the preparation for the potential opening of our second site (pending a material change request with Estyn) as we continue to grow.

We've also said farewell to two fantastic pupils as they move on to the next stage of their lives, while looking forward to welcoming several new pupils in September.

What started as a passion project has grown into a provision that has proven its value. We've built the foundations to keep learning, improving and creating even more opportunities for the young people who need us most.

To everyone who has supported us, our staff, families, local authorities, partners and, above all, our incredible pupils. Yhank you.

What a year it has been at Ysgol Antur Cwm! 🌿✨ As we close the gates for the summer, we are reflecting on our second year as an independent school. Our thematic learning approach has allowed our young people to connect with education in a way that truly works for them, building confidence and skills for life. 🛶📚

We are bidding a fond farewell to two of our pupils today. It has been a privilege to watch you grow, and we wish you nothing but the very best on your journey ahead. Da iawn! 👏
